Unusual West Seattle “haunt”; more jack-o-lanterns

While looking online for the legends of “haunted West Seattle,” the most unusual one we came across was … the Rite-Aid on California between Alaska and Morgan Junctions. Scroll to the 4th entry under “Seattle area” on this page. (It’s right below a much-better-known allegedly haunted WS spot, the Rainbow House.) Any favorite lesser-known haunts to share? Meantime – more jack-o-lanterns; first, “pumpkitties” from Margelyn:

And these two are from Kevin — a witch with cauldron, followed by “a tree that wishes you happiness”:

Still time to send yours; we’ll post more during Halloween night.

Does anybody know what used to be mined at the location of the Rite Aid?

Boy, am I stupid. I always thought the Rainbow House was that way because the guy was a painter and a roofer and the A was his intial from his first name. I never knew that it was magically painting itself. sheesh.

A poor soul cursed to spend all Eternity wandering the aisle of the Rite Aid with the really groddy personal hygiene products?

So where in West Seattle is the Rainbow House?

V Bar….it’s in the Admiral District not too far from Admiral Way, but not sure if it’s 44th, 45th or 46th SW…anyone?

Hmmm, I’m skeptical on the rainbow house story. That was Dee Dee Rainbow’s house. I don’t remember which street exactly either (Jan you’re in the vicinity), but my friend lived on the same block and I would see her around. This was at least a dozen years ago. Everything else in Dee Dee’s life was decorated with a rainbow, maybe she did coincidentally buy a house that magically painted itself that way ;)

I had a friend that lived in a house behind the Rainbow house and we use to play with squirt guns (back then they looked a lot more realistic) and the guy that lived(s?) in the rainbow house came out with a real gun saying he was going to shoot us if we started to shoot him or go on his property. Creepy. It’s on the north side of admiral I think on 46th.

oh yea, i also worked at that rite aid when it was the other pay and save or something, and although there were weird people going in and out of the store, nothing paranormal ever happened. Especially in the basement, which is also really creepy.

genHillOne..yes, it’s not that far from me. I heard a totally different story about this house. I heard that the owner painted it simply because he liked the colors, and his wife kept it that way in his honor after he died. I also heard that the neighbors hated the paint job, and tried to get the city to tell her to change it….have been in West SEattle for 32 years, and never, ever heard it was haunted. But then, I never heard anything about Rite Aid, either. Wes…you actually went in the basement of that place….ewww..I can imagine it’s pretty creepy…

You want creepy, Jan? I got creepy for ya!

My buddy used to own the Classic Barber Shop, and about 15 years or so ago, moved it from it’s original location in the block to the north, when Menashe wanted to expand. The then new, and still current location of the shop is in the old West Seattle Hospital Building.

I helped my buddy with the move, and he showed me the storage area in the basement of the “new” building, which, when it was still a hospital, was the……….MOURGE!!! =:0
