From the “Other Blogs in WS” writers

Two notes from our weekly check to make sure the Other Blogs in WS page links are still good (and to see what all those other lively West Seattle writers are up to!):

-Looking for a West Seattle house for less than $300,000? One blogger’s house just went up for sale, and she’s started this blog [wsb note: link removed 12/26/07, no longer active] to get it a little extra attention.

-Dropping by the JetCityOrange blog reminded us that JCO’s Jerry had sent us a link earlier about some mysterious graffiti he spotted around town, wondering if anyone knows what it stands for. (Check it out here.)

If JCO had looked a little closer at his picture he’d notice there is an “i” in the “u”. To be honest this isn’t obvious right away. I noticed because I had a flat tire on my bike right by one of these stencils and spent a bit of time staring at it to figure it out. Searching for “iuwr” produces this link. Looks like a marathon

Just rememebr that YOUR current home appraisal value is based somewhat on what comps around you sell for. Thanks to this blogger for contributing to driving prices lower.

Dawson (and one other person who e-mailed us with the same answer) – thank you. One more event for the Events page! House – According to county property records, this house is 880 square feet. If you crunch the numbers on that, it’s probably a good comp at price per square foot. Anecdotally, for example, we have a house about a third bigger, on about the same size lot (5K sf vicinity) which would sell for probably a third more.

Amazing! Why don’t you pile on the person that buys The House, not the person needing to sell it for whatever reason? Why don’t you commend this person for driving down assessments, thus lowering YOUR precious taxes?

WSB, I do stand corrected. I was unaware that the house was only 880 sq. ft. It appears larger than that in the photo. That would be an appropriate price for a house that size.

Jeff, a real estate transaction is ultimately up to the seller, not the buyer. Plus, the goal of any buyer is to purchase lower. Taxes account for a very small percentage each year of your home value, while sales price could equal tens of thousands of dollars. Next question…….

My mistake House, I was under the impression that a house was worth only what a buyer would pay for it :). I’m sure the seller’s trying to get as much as they possibly can for it. I’d much prefer to see a house priced too low which will sell quickly than a house priced too high that sits vacant.

Sorry, comment time is over.
