02/22/2014. Found a black baby bunny on my back yard, 47th and Erskine. Please call 206 550 7979 if he is yours. *Note, the bunny has since been taken to a shelter – if yours, contact original finder to check
That’s a 6 week old bunny. Maybe 8 week. We ended probably. Needs food pellet and hay..alfalfa. plenty of water. I’m a bunny lady and can honestly say they get dumped more than any pet I know. People think they can make it in the wild and they are a disposable pet. I would look up bunny care online and take good care of her until you can find a forever home
There are rabbit rescue groups around Puget Sound. I encourage the finder to contact them immediately, if the bunny is still alive. Darcy mentioned hay – if the bunny does not receive unlimited access to timothy hay and water, it will cause enormous pain from gas and stasis. The stasis can easily kill a baby rabbit. These are animals which can completely shut down under stress and it doesn’t take much to stress their fragile young systems.
Another point about diet – cruciferous vegetables – which include that cabbage in the photograph above – are not recommended in a young animal. Other greens can be high in oxalic acid and for a stressed baby, might not be optimal. Best advice is have a vet who specializes in exotic animals immediately examine any unknown rabbit, especially a baby. It is very important that timothy hay should be the only food being fed with constant fresh water until then.
Please call the Bird and Exotic Clinic of Seattle (on Aurora) right away to get this little guy in tomorrow. They can help with making sure he gets through this stressful time and may also be able to find a home for him — http://birdandexotic.com/
