Miss the Fauntleroy (Way) Boulevard open house? Here’s what you missed, and what’s next

6:20 PM: As of 6 pm, midway through the two-hour SDOT open house for the Fauntleroy Way SW Boulevard project, about 45 people had dropped by. You still have until 7 pm to go to the Senior Center of West Seattle and get a closer look at the newest renderings for how this project would change Fauntleroy Way between SW Alaska and 35th SW (they’re also now available on the official webpage), with project manager Thérèse Casper and others standing by to answer your questions, as well as several ways to comment (from sticky notes to computer terminals).

The project is on its way to 60 percent design; if the $500,000 that’s in the mayor’s budget for the remaining 40 percent is approved, that will proceed, and then the city has to figure out how to pay to build the project’s features.

7:02 PM: Here are the renderings that were up on boards around the room at the meeting:

This is the official updated project info-sheet:

Something to say? Say it sooner rather than later – here’s one way to do that. Casper says they’re continuing to meet with local businesses and organizations and have already met with some businesses multiple times, to go over points of concern.

I heard it’s possible they may want to tear down the building that holds West Seattle Brewing Co. (Nooooooo!) Do you know if they mentioned this at the open house?

Kim – that apparently, at least according to my conversation with project manager Therese Casper, was possibly a misinterpretation by someone in the group of businesses in that building. I had heard a concern that sounded to me as if someone thought the sidewalk was going to be narrowed there, and Casper said their concern was that they thought the project would somehow cut into the building, which, she said, it won’t.

    .
Hmm. I read this as saying there are apparently some serious “points of concern” affecting local business, and they are not really resolvable within the current designs?

Well that’s good to hear. Thanks, WSB!

I like that they’re cleaning up the 2-lane left turn from Avalon to Fauntleroy (from next to Starbucks around to where Oregon is). It goes from 2 lanes on Avalon to 3 lanes on Fauntleroy and if you are on the outside of the 2 lanes, the inside lane often drifts over and pushes you into the 3rd/curb lane that is right turn only for Oregon, even if that’s not your intent. I experience it weekly when I go to TJs after work by coming up the hill on Avalon. One of these days someone is going to sideswipe my car. Frankly they can go ahead, it’ll get some of my door dings repaired at their expense.

Sorry, comment time is over.
