Apparently some readers of WSB feel detailed crime reports reflect badly on West Seattle. Your thoughts? Agree or disagree?

i believe it’s incredibly important to be aware of what is happening both good and bad in west seattle. i am grateful for the detailed reports. it is the only way to put a stop to this. if we know where and when things are happening we can be greater prepared. keep up the great work wsb and readers who report news!!!!!!

It’s always a matter of choice, yours basically whether you choose to expose yourself to the information or not. Sometimes I choose not to expose myself to particularly gruesome details of crimes and that is my choice. I appreciate that information is available, however, and I reserve my right to make my choice. As an example a while back I did appreciate being informed of the laptops being brazenly stolen from local coffee houses as I naively had no idea this was happening…

There are times when it can be a real heads up. For instance, if something just happened, and WSB posts it right away, the community can be on the lookout for the perpetrator, etc. If there was just a digest published once a week, that may just be too much time between the time of the crime and the posting. I know I don’t want to wait a week to find out that there is a particular burglar hitting my neighborhood…

I want to know what’s going on in my neighborhood, even if does reflect badly on WS. It’s important to me to know.

Does ‘reflect badly’ mean people are worried people will think badly of them if they find out there’s crime in their neighborhood?

Kayleigh…I think it means that people will think that WS is crime ridden, which really isn’t the case. We just hear about it in a timely fashion now. Some people think that it makes the area look bad, when actually, there’s crime all over the city, and we fare pretty well here :)

Maybe if “they” think WS is crime ridden, then they’ll stop building townhomes and our rents will go down. :)

you know, Sue…that thought went through my head.Developers can have as many bad thoughts as they want if it keeps them away :)

Sue, I agree, maybe if “they” think WS is crime ridden then people will stop moving here and the prices of homes will go down, at least enough so that the people who live in apartments here can afford to buy.
