pelicansParticipantSo, what is up with all the white delivery vans in the park and ride spaces under the west end of the West Seattle bridge? They’ve been there since before Christmas, when a lot of them had Amazon signs on them. Is the city of Seattle allowing a private company to park its vehicles on city property? Has anyone not been able to use this park and ride due to these vehicles taking up the spaces?

valvashonParticipantCorporate Welfare for Amazon! In this case, it’s in the form of free parking for their fleet of vans. The company I work for made sure that the building they moved into had parking for their fleet of vehicles. I guess Amazon does what it wants to. That’s part of the reason that you’ll never see one of those white vans dropping something off at my house!

JanSParticipantwould be interesting to know if they are paying for those spaces they are parked in…maybe they’re not free….

22bladesParticipant“Corporate Welfare for Amazon!” Couldn’t have said it better. I brought this up in another forum how I thought city property could be better repurposed or utilized. I would welcome my city providing a lease for revenue positive use (1.). I’ve also said that developers / contractors need to repair utility patches to “at or better” standards instead of leaving us with potholed streets. They’re getting too many free rides that we don’t get as regular tax-paying citizens.
1. Repurposing THE Viaduct for a park or using the Battery Street Tunnel for a city motor-pool in stead just filling it in.

sam-cParticipantYOUR THOUGHTS? Early concept for Harbor/Spokane/Avalon intersection improvements
As a side note for repairs to roadways after construction, this comment mentions that the contractors temporarily patch it, and it’s the City’s responsibility to complete the final patch. I don’t know if that is true or not, though.
e.t.a.- well, the link doesn’t seem to go to the comment i was referencing, but scroll down to find ‘Nigel’s’ comment.- This reply was modified 7 years, 1 month ago by sam-c.

2 Much WhineParticipantI’d rather see vans parked there in the parking spots that were made for parking than have the area filled with tents and garbage like other areas of the city (and the health issues that go along with that situation). Do we know for sure that the vans belong to Amazon or is that just speculation?

JanSParticipantfor the OP and valvashon…do you, in fact, know that they are parking for free? can you supply us with a link to that information, so we can also be educated? Speculation is not fact…just don’t want to pass on false information or be outraged at something that is possibly not true. Thanks.

pelicansParticipantI noticed around Christmas that a lot (but not all) of them had Amazon on the sides. Whether those were the removable type, I don’t know. But there seems to be more of these vans parked every time I pass through there.
March 23, 2017 at 1:02 am #877963
22bladesParticipant1. There are no meters covering the parking spots.
2. If it were a lease, wouldn’t you think there would be at least a chain-link fence like a construction site?
3. SDOT No Parking signs went up in that very area & beyond without regard for users for bridge maintenance.
4. (re JanS) I would think that it is a reasonable assumption that these vans are not paying a lease. While speculative, it’s reasonable. C’mon, it’s a forum… Who’s had 2MuchWhine?March 24, 2017 at 3:09 pm #878093
JayDeeParticipantI brought this up last year when the vans had AmazonFresh signage and no one commented. I know another local business that used to park their trucks there overnight and think they just do so without special permission. Maybe Amazon removed the signage due to delivery stalkers?

pelicansParticipantJan S,
Please go back and read (or reread) my original post and subsequent comment before challenging me on something I did not outrightly state or imply. I did not solicit outrage in my posts, as you imply. Maybe you are the one poised to launch outrage.
Whether the owner(s) of those vehicles is paying the city or not, the number of them seems to indicate they are commercial versus commuter vehicles. And they are taking up space that West Seattle commuters could otherwise use.
Please thoroughly read all posts before responding. You would be that much more credible.- This reply was modified 7 years, 1 month ago by pelicans.

buttercupParticipant2 days after all the talk about white vans under the west end of Seattle bridge they were removed. They belonged to a distributing company on Harbor Ave. Glad they removed them from the new Park and Ride.

savoirfaireParticipantThanks so much for the update, buttercup! I had actually sent a question in to King County Metro about this and haven’t heard back from them yet.

savoirfaireParticipantLast follow-up, I heard back from KC Metro yesterday that they had been in touch with the City of Seattle (who owns the land the Park & Ride is on) and Amazon about the vans, which I think had probably been reported before. I guess it never hurts to ask!
