Anyone else plant broccoli starts just to have them taken down to the ground the next day? I even had bird netting over them but gone. I now have some metal chicken wire but seriously, what does this? We don’t have rabbits in the area and that’s all I can think of. These starts are maybe 1.5 – 2 inches tall, no fruit! Mouse, squirrel, rat?????

I’m thinking slugs. They have a voracious appetite, and you’d be surprised at what they can consume in a single night. Tender new growth is their favorite comestible.

Definitely slugs. The moment I see my calla lilies sprouting I have to slugbait otherwise they’re destroyed.

Try Sluggo brand slug bait. It can be used in organic gardens. All garden stores, McLeendons, and True Value have it.

I heard slugs are repelled by coffee grounds. I sprinkle just a tiny bit around new seedlings, and it has really helped. At least allows them enough time to get too big to be taken down in a single night!
