Hello All! This is Jessica (aka missaudreyhorne aka j.see from seattle neighborhood watch), and as some of you know I am JanS’s daughter. She doesn’t know I’m doing this (although she will once she gets on the forums) but I wanted to run something by all of you, as I know that a lot of you are her friend and have gotten to know her through her participation in recent fund raising/charity events.

Some of you also may know that she is having hip replacement surgery on Tuesday May 13th (her second) and since she is self-employed, she will not have any income for the second half of May during her recovery process. I know that even though she doesn’t speak to me much about it that it is weighing heavily on her at a time that she should be focusing on her health rather than making ends meet. She isn’t really one to ask for handouts, but she has I think mentioned it here once that she has a donations link on her massage website. It is hard to ask for help in these situations, and for someone who is always there to lend a hand for others I don’t think it is an unreasonable thing to mention.

What I am asking is that if you can spare it, perhaps those of you who are friends of my mom’s could make a donation through her website. Also, I emailed with the WSB, and they suggested perhaps a donation jar at the Forum Community yard sale tomorrow? I am not involved in this, so I don’t really know who is putting it on, but if that were possible it would be fantastic.

They also mentioned perhaps a fundraiser, and as much as that sounds like a wonderful idea, the surgery is so close and things are so hectic at home and at work I’m not sure if I could pull off something soon. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I am all ears.

I’ll be helping out a lot during her recovery process, and plan to do shopping for her and try to make as many meals as I can, but I can only do so much. If giving money isn’t your thing, perhaps you like to cook and would want to bring over a meal? I already have some friends who have offered, but like I said, any bit helps!

I just wanted to get the ball rolling, something I should have done much much earlier. She really deserves to not have to worry about money, she has been through so much in the last few years (including surviving cancer and another hip replacement surgery). Finally she is getting a chance to get rid of the pain that she has suffered from daily for such a long time, but it is less of a joy due to the worry. She is a great person and an amazing mother, and I just want to make sure I do all I can to help her feel comfortable during her down time.

    EDIT: Here is her website!

It is very obvious that JanS is an amazing mother, look at how her daughter turned out! I think this is fantastic. I am willing to help in any way that I can. I will also make a donation.

Thank you for getting this out there!

Jan knows she can email me for an emergency trip to Zippy Burgers any time. Will also donate via her website on payday. Nice job, Jsee! :)

Thanks Jen! (I might have to tag along to Zippy, haven’t been there yet but heard her raves!)

I suppose this is a given, but really every little bit helps. If everyone helped out with a little something, it would be more than a little!

    missy..

    actually, your mom is…

along with Gina .. it’s at her house on 45th.. and me..

tho i don’t know if i am going to make it. I got a lot sicker today.

for those who are not so internet savvy… like me.. if you want to donate.. follow the links and pre-pay massage… then you can work out the details later.

Yeah, I know she is. I don’t know Gina, but maybe if she reads this she can contact me? I’m at mlle.audreyhorne@gmail.com

Also! Yes, internet savvy! She has a “donations” link on the left side of her site, and then on that page is a “button” you can click on on the right of her paragraph about the donations that will take you to a page where you can donate via credit card/bank account. FYI, I’ve used paypal for many many online transactions as I used to have a small side ebay business and I can definitely say that it is safe!

Oh! And also, pre-pay massage and/or gift certificates purchased by you guys would be great too! She won’t be able to give massages for a bit, but as long as you understand that I’m sure that would be great!

The sale at my house will be mostly artisan jewelry, with the artisan present, and I am baking a batch of cookies. I don’t have any yard sale goods myself, since I was only offering my yard! Easy as pie to make a jar.

Sale will be from 9-2, cancelled if it rains.

PS–It is advertised as Food, Drink and Play–

For the play portion of the sale, I don’t know what was originally the idea, but there is a playground across the street with fun play structures for kids. Good place to let them run around a bit.

    For drink–I do have a hose…

Thanks for doing a donation jar, Gina! I really appreciate it! I’ll definitely have to stop by and hang for a bit and perhaps meet some of you.

Thanks everyone for the support! Those of you who have given contact info or we should have it already, I’ll send you an email or give you a call towards the end of next week. She’ll be home most likely on Friday a week from today, and I think next week I’ll maybe work on a schedule for people who want to bring by food or if people want to bring by something frozen I can arrange to get that too.

You are all amazing, thank you thank you thank you! I’m so glad to be part of the community.

We live within shouting distance and we’ll do anything. Barring that, we’ll donate, of course. (We’ve actually made two snatch and grab runs at Zippy’s this week — we can just bring extras for you, the tall guy, and Jan. (Gotta love me that Atkins).

We’ll be getting together with your mom sometime this weekend to turn over the laptop for while she’s in the hospital and some other stuff. Maybe we can pry more info from her at that time.

Seems to me, even if we think we don’t have time to put together a real (?) fund raiser, we could put some fliers and jars around the neighborhood. If we keep doing this, I will figure out how to spell fly(i)er. Miss Audrey, is that too crass? If not, I’ll crank up the printer and limp around the neighborhood.

Jen, how about you ask BPP about putting up a jar and NR or I ask about Admiral Pub (and anywhere else Jan hangs out.) Think of it, they can donate to help a good woman without having to hang out with the questionable characters of the blog.

Charla, THANK YOU! I’m sure I’m speaking for both myself and the tall guy when I say bring on the Zippy’s. We haven’t actually been there because we lack an automobile.

Is she borrowing a laptop from you or something? Because that is so awesome and she didn’t mention it!

I think fliers and jars is a terrific idea, but I think I’ll confer with her first to see what her comfort level is.

How long will Jan be out of work and needing meals/etc. I assume when she goes back, it won’t be full time immediately. (I’d guess massage is more physically demanding than, for example, sitting on my fat a** writing software and manuals.)

I’m thinking of something really disgusting, like making a list of stuff Jan needs and then (are you sitting down?) scheduling its delivery. I’ll shut up now before someone firebombs my house :-) I really do love ad hoc projects too — honest, (she said, hyperventilating, madly, into a large paper bag).

“I think fliers and jars is a terrific idea, but I think I’ll confer with her first to see what her comfort level is.”

Let us know — who’s the graphic designer? NR, you have great taste–someone could create a poster and a pdf file and then everyone could just in time print and post.

Yard Sale Saturday seems a great time — also, the Farmers’ Market has a lot of walk through traffic — I have no idea if/ who you have to ask to set up a table — they’re probably pretty reasonable as long as you don’t bring a dog.

charla – Thank you for the “great taste” compliment. Did you mean in men?

I think BDG did the flier for the other fund raiser. Maybe she could do some for Jan.

I will absolutely talk to Eric at Admiral about a jar there. Charla, just email me when you find out from Jan if that would be okay!
