Escaped out our slider by accident; doesn’t fly well. Corner of 17th & Trenton – back yard faces alley and main drag of 16th. Please help by looking in your yards and bushes if you live nearby.

Answers to “Max” and whistles “Leave it to Beaver” and “mexican hat dance”. He is yellow/gray with orange cheeks and yellow comb.

Please contact at 206-650-5748 if you see or find him. We are panicked and heartbroken

Hey Shibaguyz – can’t find your meetup.com thing you mentioned. Can you email me?

Hey I saw this guy fly over a little bit ago. My neighbor has birds on his back deck and I thought it was one of his. It flew south over my back yard on 18th. I checked the neighbor’s bird and it was there so I just assumed I had been mistaken.

I’ll let him know so that if it comes back to visit his bird he can call.

    Good Luck

I don’t live right near you, but if you want me to stop by and help you look for your bird, please call me on my cell – 206-349-3767.

Our little parrot, Pickle, flew away a few years ago; fortunately, we found her a few hours later up in a tree. She’s fine now, but what a horrible few hours it was. Max sounds very cute – I hope and pray you find him.

Mellaw, we added the info to the pets page too, but if you see this before you see our note back – do you have a photo? send one if you have it. Must be the weather, we have suddenly had half a dozen lost/found pet reports in the past 24 hours after barely that many in the last 2 months.

After nearly nine hours of tracking Max from tree to tree (with the help of our great neighbors), we have finally given up for the night as we can no longer see him or hear him. He is somewhere at the top of a very tall tree near 18th and Cloverdale. Needless to say we are exhausted and distraught knowing he will be out all night. Hopefully, he may still be around in the morning and we can resume the coaxing to get him down on the ground – with the wind tonite he’s finding it easy to soar even with partially clipped wings.

Thank you, thank you to our great neighbors in Highland Park for all of your efforts in helping us track him today. We hope to get to know all of you better under different circumstances in the future.

As stated before – please contact us at 206-650-5748 if he is spotted or found.

    Hey mellaw6565 –

Max sounds like a really terrific cockatiel. Coincidentally, I was walking my dog, the dood, going east up Trenton past your street right when you first posted. Small world, eh? But, bad day for you :(. I’ll keep an eye out here for your update. Stay positive!

Wishing Max and you the best from over by Highland Park Elementary!

mellaw6565 – I don’t live in that area at all, but have still been keeping a look out all day!

My heart goes out to you! I hope that tomorrow is a better day and you get your little guy back!

I will keep checking on here to see what is going on and if help is needed, we will be there!

Update: I checked this morning and he is still in the same tree we left him last night. He’s looking a little hungry and cold, but still won’t come down.

Various rescues have advised us to put up a cage in the tree, which we will attempt later today. Currently he is located in an alley-side tree off 18th ave sw between Trenton & Cloverdale.

We’ll be checking on him later today and see if he’s desperate enough to come down yet. Thanks again to all who have checked in and are keeping a watch on our baby:)We still have hope!

Yes, placing the cage in a visible spot is a good idea, from what I’ve read and heard regarding trying to “capture” a pet bird that is stuck in a tree or some other high place.

    .

Another idea, is if he has a favorite treat, or even toy that might entice him into the cage, if you could place it in or on the cage in a manner that he can see the item.

    .

Best of luck to you. I had an African Grey that died a little over three years ago, from injuries due to a night fright. So, I understand the anxiety involved in being seperated from your friend, or more accurately, “kid”.

Thank you for keeping us posted. I’m relieved that your little Max made it through the night. If Max weren’t so high up, I’d recommend a ladder. You might seriously consider calling the fire dept if Max doesn’t come down before it gets dark. Their ladder would be able to reach him, as long as it doesn’t frighten him away. After all, if they can rescue kittens in trees, they should be willing to help Max.

Thanks for checking in. He is still in a tree on 18th between Trenton & Cloverdale (he switched trees a few times today). He almost came down to me earlier this evening and landed twice on the wires above, but wouldn’t come down all the way. We’ve tried everything – food, toys, etc….- but they say he won’t come down until he’s desperate. He’s close but not there yet. We’ll try again in the morning – I think another night out in cooler temperatures w/o food and we just might get him yet.

My cat did that when I was a kid. People who say they will always come down are wrong. It was a week-and-a-half. Tuna, toys, calling, nothing worked.

My dad had to rent climbing gear to go get her! If Max won’t “fly” from you and rather stay put to see you are coming to get him – that might be an option?

Update: We believe now that Max is gone, i.e. expired. We can no longer hear or see him and we don’t think he had the strength left to relocate somewhere else. We will continue to hold out some hope, but at this point are resigned to the fact that either the elements and dehydration got to him or a predator did. Needless to say we are heartbroken over the loss of one our “children” and we are in mourning over his loss.

Thanks again to all who offered their help and support. And again, a reminder now that spring is here, to be extra vigilant in protecting our non-human children from escape and predators. Our lack of vigilance has cost us dearly.

Oh Mellaw6565, I am so sorry to hear that Max is gone. I have had 2 birds and I was so surprised at what great/distinct personalities they had. Thank you for keeping us informed, and again, I am so sorry for your loss.

    Thanks for the update mellaw6565.

That is such a bummer. :(. But very good advice given, I must say.

May we all have a solemn moment for all the other MIA pets out there!

So sad to hear this. My thoughts are with you.

    .

Just a reminder to other pet bird owners (I realize in Max’s case, it was simply an unfortunate escape, not a situation of him riding around on a shoulder, or such, outside) but, even if the wings are clipped, a proper clipping will leave enough flight feathers should a bird decide to jump off the top of it’s cage, or whatever.

    .

The downside to this, is if the bird is outside without any restraint, even a little bit of wind can carry them away, if they decide to, or are startled into “flying”.

I am so sorry to hear about Max. I’m sure he had a good life; you seem like very loving and caring people. Maybe there is the tiniest, slightest chance that he is still out there. In the meantime, I will give extra kisses to my little parrot.

Oh, I’m terribly sorry. I hope he’s really okay still. But I appreciate the opportunity to learn from your experience, and will be much more careful with my parrot than I have been.

From Aim and I and the Cat Army, we are very sorry, and we still will hold out hope.
