JTBParticipantWe know a plutocracy is conventionally described as a society which is ruled or controlled by a wealthy elite. It’s a version of an oligarchy which refers to power being concentrated in the hands of a few.
Trump’s chief strategist, Steve Bannon, has expressed his contempt for the finance sector and the political class that has pandered to it. Trump railed against Wall Street during the campaign and promised to remove the breaks obtained by the very rich over the years.
So it’s been noteworthy that a number of Trump’s cabinet picks are in fact members of the wealthy elite. Should we suppose Steven Mnuchin, Betsy DeVos, Rex Tillerson or Vincent Viola (who removed himself due to business conflicts) are expected to use their power and influence to better reign in their peers?
Yesterday, Trump removed any uncertainty about his intentions when he convened a meeting of powerful business leaders and said “We expect to be cutting a lot out of Dodd-Frank, because frankly I have so many people, friends of mine, that have nice businesses and they can’t borrow money.”
It’s true that banks have had to apply tighter scrutiny to loans and hold more cash in reserve as a result of Dodd-Frank. Trump also said in the same meeting that “There’s nobody better to tell me about Dodd-Frank than Jamie . . . ,” referring to Jamie Dimond of JP Morgan the investment banking firm that figured prominently in the financial crisis. Any questions about how this is going to play out?
All of that said, I appreciate that “America First” has a better ring to it than “Me and MY Friends First.”

captainDaveParticipantJTB: Capital is necessary for small business development and real productive/sustainable non-government job growth. Ask yourself why Wall Street campaigned for the other candidate if they wanted this to happen. It’s all about re-establishing a competitive marketplace that benefits the vast majority of Americans. It is not a return to Bu-sh era crony politics. The previous administrations strategy was to wipe out all the small banks under the guise of consumer protection when it was really about amassing centralized control and wealth for a small group of elites–which is exactly what happened. The few remaining banks are even bigger and more onerous today. No surprise. Now the bank oligarchy makes a lot of their money on predatory fees and foreclosures instead of providing real leveragable value to customers.
Why do you think it’s such a good idea for there to only be a few big omnipresent banks owning and sitting on everything? Isn’t that suppose to be the bane of lib-erals?

JanSParticipantBetsy DeVos….”I expect a return on my money”. Remember when Capt. Dave went on and on and on and on about HRC’s “pay to play”? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

mark47nParticipantCD, if you think that the power wasn’t concentrated in those few hands prior to Obama then you need to reexamine the last few decades. The power concentration happened. As to the magical, mythical beast known as “The Market”, all I can tell you is there has never been a free market. It’s always been controlled by someone. King’s dictated where a market could be held, what could be sold and what the taxes were on those markets. Unauthorized markets were crushed.
Your convoluted and, frankly, crazy logic makes my head hurt and that’s saying something as I used to try to teach AC theory to electrician’s apprentices. Have you ever tried to explain to a residential wireman why they need to understand inductive and capacitive reactance and how it can affect electrical systems? I think not.

JTBParticipantCD Did you miss the point of my OP that Trump is turning to Jaimie Dimond for the scoop on how Dodd Frank? You do know who Dimod is, don’t you? Do you think he’s interested in funneling capital to small business? When Trump stated his motivation for gutting Dodd Frank was to help his friends, didn’t that sound a wee bit like crony capitalism? And what gives you a notion from anything I said that I’m in favor of big banks owning and sitting on everything?????? Heck, I’m still pissed that we missed an opportunity to nationalize the banks and turn them into public utilities.

williamf64ParticipantHilarious !
Liberal’s create the recession by imposing their sick ideology into the Loan institutions of Fanny Mae & Freddie Mac which said that anyone of any means has a Right to own a home even if they can’t afford it.
We hear never ending stories of people without jobs and Illegals getting huge loans and then defaulting.OBama say’s in 2008 that ” Borrowing from China is unpatriotic ” and then jacks the national Debt from ( 8 Trillion ) to ( 22 Trillion ).
Democrats are now the party of the Elites and Trump is supposedly the leader of the party of the ” Uneducated masses ” so Please try to get your HATE story straight

williamf64ParticipantNice try ” Whinester ” Conservatives don’t like debate ?
Honestly that is the most ridiculous thing I have heard yet. Well, Except for that ” Black Lives Matter ” thing while innocent women & children in Chicago are being slaughtered daily and you don’t even mention it. More than the Iraq War and not even a Whisper. The Left is not allowing Conservatives to speak anywhere in this country. Dragging people out of their cars and beating them ” With Love and a Club ” of course because they dare to have a Trump sticker on their bumper.
Conservatives are not even being allowed to speak on College campus’s at all. If they manage to find a college that even remotely honors ” Free Speech ” we see major riot’s from the Sick communist Left in an attempt to do nothing but silence them. And YOU are Ok with all of it. Tell me I’m wrong and make my case. ( Bird’s Chirping )
FOX News always has a Liberal included with every debate yet MSNBC won’t allow a Conservative in the Building.
Imagine how Absolutely Hilarious the Lawrence O’Donnell show would be if they allowed a Conservative any where near that show ?
Just wait until the honorable President Trump repeals the law allowing the Church’s to actually express a political opinion. Then Liberal’s are DONE !
Keep burning the Car’s and Beating people. Nothing will prove the Conservative case more !

JTBParticipantThe Johnson amendment is not a matter of churches being prohibited from expressing a political opinion or even supporting a particular candidate; it’s engaging in explicitly political activities in support of a candidate, fundraising in particular. Allowing that to occur would make political contributions to the candidate tax deductible.
I’m fine with repealing the Johnson amendment AND removing the non-profit status of churches that engage in partisan political support for a particular candidate.

mark47nParticipantYou do realize that the Recession began during the Bush administration, right? You cannot put that on Obama. Additionally, what are your sources for your deficit/debt numbers? Given that Obama brought down the deficit, to say that he almost tripled the debt is a stretch.
No one has silenced the right. It’s just that no one is listening. Don’t confuse those two things. From the right all I’ve read is circular logic and inversion, such as, in todays paper, “a living constitution equals a dead one.” This was in a column regarding the appointment on Neil Gorsuch as a Supreme Court justice. The author claims that the only appropriate interpretation of the constitution is the original, never mind the number of amendments that have been added on. This would be coming from the Founding Father who owned slaves and muskets. Who, never in their wildest dreams, could never have imagined the technology today. They also advocated for a living document, by the way, understanding that things and technology change.
By the way, there is no Communist uprising. You’ve never even seen such a thing in this country. Ever.

This is not to make light of threats so much as to point out the absurdity of the common arguments against me and my fellow snowflakes and our alleged predilection for violence instead of cutting words and sarcasm…like that.
