wakefloodParticipantAppreciate the good thoughts, Rich. Best to you as well. Let’s all have a great spring, the days are getting longer and everyone’s spirits hopefully will rise too. :-)

JoBParticipantHMCRich.
LOL…So the DC press goes.. so goes the nation?
and do you believe the press so corrupted that they are incapable of objective reporting?
i know i went to school in the dark ages, but one of the things I was taught in journalism class is to beware of over-presenting the opposing viewpoint in the interests of fairness :)
again.. may i recommend some really lefty news broadcasts so you have a basis for comparison?
March 7, 2013 at 9:22 am #784852
JoBParticipantDBP
Your basic argument seems to be that those who defend a particular viewpoint are incapable of understanding the opposing party’s argument.
That could be true.
It could also be true that the opposing party’s viewpoint simply has no merit.
It takes a discerning eye to distinguish between those two possible truths.

JoBParticipantnearly forgot..
Hugs to you too HMC
i have always known a kind heart beats beneath that tea party breast ;->

HMC RichParticipantHi JoB, There are plenty of fine journalists in DC. Some of them objective. Walter Cronkite voted one way but reported correctly. He didn’t like Dan Rather and he was right.
I don’t care if they are communist or anarchist, if they catch a politician lying, cheating, stealing or whatever from us then good for them.
I just want our elected officials to be held accountable and not coddled.

“I just want our elected officials to be held accountable and not coddled.”
This is something we can agree on..
Our difference of opinion lies in who is being coddled.

HMC RichParticipantWhether elected or not elected, there is a ton of waste in government that can be addressed regardless of party affiliation.
March 20, 2013 at 4:07 pm #784857
JoBParticipantHMCRich..
yes, there is a ton of waste in government that could be addressed regardless of party affiliation.
unfortunately, most of it won’t be found under the beds of those who need America’s assistance.
when we stop focusing our attention on those who need our generosity to survive… we stand a chance on identifying and eliminating some of that governmental waste.

TeslaMemberIMHO, the two major US political parties and discussions related thereto are simply a small part of an on-going global propaganda agenda/ploy to capture and divert public attention/action from comprehending the horror of our certain future which will make the Cyprus bank confiscation of up to 60% of money in depositors bank accounts and in our case future pension rights earned seem minor in comparison. The global economy is beyond bankrupt and the only item in question is the timing of the re-set or the big unwinding. Already it is apparent that the “haircuts” will not be paid by the greedy Too Big to Jail bastards who broke the markets but by taxpayers, every-day people who have saved $$ and didn’t get the memo like the new president of Cyprus and the few others who got the heads up to move their $$ before the “levy” as reported today,(if true). I wonder how long the can will be kicked down the road or how far the Emperor will travel before we start to mention the lack of clothes thing? Just saying…My suggestion #1. Move into hard assets/objects TPTB can’t just levy away…items that will have value no matter the value of our currency. Even in Zimbabwe where they have trillion dollar bills, a tractor, a parcel of land, a good tool…whatever, has either future currency value after reset or is good for barter. Be prepared to function in a shadow economy as much of the world is becoming pretty adept already in the shadows and wades well in the dark trading pools. If you are not already familiar with shadow banking or dark pools…it’s all there to know, it’s just that the propoganda is still misdirecting you and your family…not accusing, just saying the US has some hard decades ahead…

wakefloodParticipantYou know HMCR, you talk like gubment is the only wasteful enterprise out there. Sure, it’s got its inefficiencies, no one denies it. But if you think that many or MOST private or public companies are efficient and don’t have tons of nepotism and failing your way up the ladder you’re not being honest.
The bigger they are, the more effed up they usually are. I once read a study that suggested that any organization over about 600 people was essentially unmanageable. And I know a few companies that so believe that “too big doesn’t work” to the point that once they hit a number around that size, they literally break off and start another independent enterprise. It’s the only way to make sure they function effectively.
All of which is to say, big isn’t better, no matter who they are or what they do.
And if you only want to complain about gubment because it’s your tax dollars being spent, I get that. But if you own any stock, you’re paying for a bunch of their inefficiencies too.

HMC RichParticipantWakeflood, Federally the budget doesn’t shrink. I don’t know about Washington State but I haven’t checked. But, with automatic increases every year by the Federal Government, there is more to spend and waste.
If there was actual baseline budgeting and not automatic budget increases each year, then I would feel a bit better about the fiscal oversight that should be taking place.
I don’t like waste at any institution, but the government takes my money from me. I choose to give to private institutions. The Government is a greedy landlord, not Private businesses. There is greed in some private industries but they don’t force me to pay for their goods generally if I do not care to.
April 4, 2013 at 8:02 am #784861
JoBParticipantno, they just force you to pay more for the goods and/or services you do choose
April 4, 2013 at 8:04 am #784862
HMC RichParticipantHere is a program that both the Government and the “victims” misused the money.
April 4, 2013 at 12:01 pm #784863
wakefloodParticipantRich: “there is greed in some private industries…”
Every company that has pricing leverage uses it. And if they can, abuses it. They start with spending millions on buying deregulation and votes in Congress to get the leverage. Here’s just a few: EVERY defense contractor, EVERY BIG BANK, CABLE and TELECOM COMPANIES, BIG PHARMA, INSURANCE COMPANIES, BIG OIL and the list goes on…
April 4, 2013 at 1:18 pm #784864
wakefloodParticipant…and the concept of building a better mousetrap left this economy decades ago. Now any substantial sized business is more about either merging with or acquiring or position for being acquired than they are about innovating or adding value to the consumer. Witness our country’s standing in studies that show that we’re mid-pack in many areas of price vs. service received.
You can point to Defense as an area where you might think we’re at the top of the heap – and you’d be right, at least in terms of technical achievement but certainly not in value for the $. See the latest article on “missile defense”??
Makes for a nice read: http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2009/10/21/what_missile_defense

HMC RichParticipantIt all makes you go HMMMMMM. This sucks.
August 31, 2013 at 6:24 am #784866
HMC RichParticipantI find this ruling another nail in the coffin of transparancy. http://washingtonexaminer.com/appeals-court-says-white-house-visitor-logs-can-be-kept-from-public/article/2534954
One day, an evil person will be in charge of our country. To lose transparency and our bill of rights freedoms will allow a despot to rule in the future.
I hope this goes to the Supreme Court. I hope that Presidents now and in the future will have to be more accountable. Every day it gets worse.
August 31, 2013 at 3:25 pm #784867
JoBParticipantHMC
it isn’t just this president that needs to be held accountable Rich.. it is all presidents
and all supreme court justices
and all senators
and all representatives
and all public officials
and…
