AnonymousInactiveBDG- Everyone has a different sense of humor, so to say you don’t care for something or find it funny is one thing, but RACIST? That’s so offensive to the real thing.
March 25, 2008 at 8:09 pm #619847
KayleighMemberNewRes, I was just stating facts to you, as you were doing when you blamed the wars on the Democrats.
It’s hard to be white in America these days, I tell ya. What with all the racism we face very day and all.
March 25, 2008 at 8:18 pm #619848
AnonymousInactiveI don’t understand why you are making this a bigger deal than it is! And, let me remind you, I did state, in so many words, that I CAN handle humor. I even said that it was funny. I just pointed out that there is not a website for any other race like that one.
If you could take a deep breath and calm down a bit, you would probably see my point. However, I don’t think that will happen today.
And me stating that website is racist towards white people is offensive? Am I, as a white person, not allowed to be offended?
I do not think myself above any other human being. I am not racist. I show respect to everyone, regardless of your race, religion, sexuality. However, I am white and I am proud of who I am and my ancestry. Sorry if that bothers you.
March 25, 2008 at 8:22 pm #619849
AnonymousInactiveKayleigh, as I’ve stated before on this forum, I am victim to racism on a regular basis while at work.
If you believe that racism towards whites does not exist, you lead a pretty sheltered life. Didn’t you hear Obama’s speech and later praise it profusely? Maybe you just heard what you wanted to.
Btw, I never blamed any war on Democrats. I simply pointed out that during those specific wars, a Dem President was in office. Just a fact.
March 25, 2008 at 8:32 pm #619850
AnonymousInactiveYou can be offended to your hearts content. However, in America, where whites hold the majority of power and resources, it is not possible by definition to be racist towards us. Someone could discriminate, offend, or be just plain insulting and rude to us. They can not, however, be racist. I don’t understand how you can equate what has happened to black people with a silly satirical website.

charlabobParticipantMarch 25, 2008 at 8:37 pm #619852
AnonymousInactiveI never tried to equate what happened to black people to a website. That’s why I said, “my argument doesn’t go that deep”.
“hatred and intolerance of another race” is the definition of racism. So, yeah, it is possible to be racist towards white people. What do you think Obama was talking about in his speech?
March 25, 2008 at 8:38 pm #619853
KayleighMemberOh, I believe you see “racism” everywhere, NewRes, except where it actually exists. That is the Republican way. But thankfully you guys are hypervigilant about protecting white people. Somebody’s gotta be, huh?
Today it’s making fun of me for liking goat cheese and indie film…tomorrow it’s banning me from attending college, crossing the street when they see me, and hanging me from a tree. It’s a slippery slope, alright.
(yes, I really am that sarcastic in real life, too. I can’t help myself; it’s genetic.)
March 25, 2008 at 8:39 pm #619854
AnonymousInactivecharlabob – You are awesome. And, obviously, I was wrong! Thanks for finding that.
Can’t we all just get along?
March 25, 2008 at 8:44 pm #619855
AnonymousInactiveKayleigh – Sarcasm is usually funny. You’re discrediting what I experience on a daily basis without having any idea about it. That’s ignorance.
March 25, 2008 at 8:47 pm #619856
AnonymousInactiveBtw – For anyone who thinks there is no such thing as white racism, read something by Thomas Sowell.
March 25, 2008 at 8:49 pm #619857
AnonymousInactiveNo, belief that a race is superior and implementing actions and policies of oppression based on that belief (slavery), is the definition of racism.
March 25, 2008 at 8:52 pm #619858
AnonymousInactiveYou can look it up, JT. Dictionary.com.
March 25, 2008 at 8:59 pm #619859
JanSParticipanthey…one of the main things we;re forgetting here…our ability to not take life so seriously..AND JUST LAUGH AT OURSELVES…geez…why does everything have to be so damned PC…humor is humor…and sometimes inappropriate…lighten up folks :)

charlabobParticipantNR, I’d love to take credit for my awesomeness but without Google I am nothing. Well, not quite as much :-)
March 25, 2008 at 9:06 pm #619861
AnonymousInactiveYou know what I think is funny? Someone will see the name of this thread and not know what they got into!
charlabob – I can learn from my mistakes. Had I taken a moment to do a search, This whole conversation would have never happened!
I actually feel really bad that I just assumed there weren’t similar websites.
March 25, 2008 at 9:22 pm #619862
AnonymousInactiveI did look it up. Here’s a compilation of almost 20 sites:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&defl=en&q=define:Racism&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title
Can’t see how humor you don’t like falls into any of the definitions.
March 25, 2008 at 9:40 pm #619863
AnonymousInactiveJT – If you can’t see how I was equating the website to racism, there is nothing more I can say on that topic. You are limiting yourself to what you want to see. There is nothing I can say to change that.
If you want to discuss an actual definition of racism, we can do that.
You told me that “belief that a race is superior and implementing actions and policies of oppression based on that belief (slavery) is the definition of racism.”
I pointed out that that is not the definition. I also followed the link that you provided and found the very first definition supported my thinking, “Prejudice or discrimination based on an individual’s race; can be expressed individually or through institutional policies or practices…”
So, to tell me that, as a white person, it is impossible, by definition, for me to experience racism, is wrong.

charlabobParticipantcharlabob – I can learn from my mistakes. Had I taken a moment to do a search, This whole conversation would have never happened!
Yeah, NR, but think what we’d be missing. I happen to agree that there is such a thing as racism against whites and … fill in your favorite. I would object to calling the original website or the two I found racist because they’re all created by people of the race involved…
White people making fun of ourselves isn’t racist. Apparently, black people using the N word isn’t either (though, as the assistant black militant of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, I’d have to disagree.) It can be offensive; it can be annoying; but racist? Nah, I don’t think so :-)
March 25, 2008 at 10:33 pm #619865
AnonymousInactivecharlabob – I very much agree with your thoughts. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), it got a little out of hand. It became bigger than what I had intended. But, I guess that’s life on the forum! LOL
March 25, 2008 at 11:51 pm #619866
LisaParticipantCan we get back to the forum topic “Trader Joes”?
I have an ideal location(s): What about ALL the Huling sites? Any one of their parcels would have good traffic access, lots of parking, and the Huling Family could be local heros! Everyone would LOVE them for bring a Trader Joes to our community!
March 26, 2008 at 12:43 am #619867
KayleighMemberNewRes, if you really experienced the dreaded white racism at your job every day, you’d quit and sue them. That’s what people do now. I certainly would.
I walk the universe with skin so fair I don’t really tan, but I’m not 100% Caucasian. My ancestors could tell you stories about racism, and I carry their memories with me, in their honor.
And for the last time, folks, we prolly ain’t gettin’ a TJ’s anytime soon. Tragic, I agree.
March 26, 2008 at 12:51 am #619868
AnonymousInactiveI would have no grounds to sue my Company, it is not them who partake in this behavior. I deal with the public, real people. Again, you’re not entirely accurate in your assumption that I am making it all up.
I bet you hardly ever leave Seattle, or West Seattle, for that matter. Spend a few days in Detroit, Oakland or Baltimore (just to name a few) and then get back to me.
March 26, 2008 at 1:02 am #619869
KayleighMember“I bet you hardly ever leave Seattle, or West Seattle, for that matter.”
Rude and uncalled for.
March 26, 2008 at 1:08 am #619870
AnonymousInactiveOh, wait a minute! You can be as “sarcastic” and, in my opinion, rude as you would like, but as soon as you are offended, it is not okay!
It actually makes my point, so thank you.
