HortsigParticipantIn an area where dogs are so beloved, I still can’t understand why people allow their dogs off lead. For the second time in two weeks, our two small, leashed dogs have been confronted by larger dogs that have been allowed to roam off-lead. Both instances happened on a small Parks trail that is cordoned off for vehicles. My first encounter entailed a medium dog that came around a corner and charged my pups – the owner attempted to recall, but the dog wasn’t listening. Fortunately, all my dogs did was bark and no harm done. Today, my husband was on the same path and encountered a good size dog that charged our dogs…both our dogs slipped leads and the dog ran after them toward the main street. Fortunately, our dogs were just scared and running, but we were able to get them back in control. Unfortunately, this resulted in quite the shouting match between my husband and the other dog’s owner. I don’t get it…when in a public area, why can’t people keep their dogs on lead, as required by law? If you want them to roam, take them to the dog park…they love it! We’re now going to avoid this trail..it’s ashamed, because it’s so conveniently located near our home, where we could conviently walk our pups. So insensitive and uncaring on so many levels…not to mention opening oneself to so many forms of liability!

angelescrestParticipantIt’s like, wtf happened to civility? Doing the right thing? Thinking about others? It’s just so out the window now, with this insane mindset of “I’ll do as I frickin’ please”. I hate it. Taking my leashed dog(s) in the circumference of Bar-S field is like taking a dare: which off-leash dog is going to come at us? We get ridiculed for complaining/ranting, but I join you in heartily condemning those who will not put their dog on a leash, making an outing with my dogs a stressed-put affair! (Yeah, preaching to the choir…)

what ever happened to civility and personal responsibility?October 22, 2016 at 2:15 pm #861896
JayDeeParticipantI was dog-sitting in Admiral and took my bosses somewhat skittish dog for a walk on a leash. She liked smelling dog’s marks, but real dogs would unnerve her. Near Garlough and Admiral a homeowner with a baby came out of a garage followed by an off-leash pitbull. “Don’t worry…” He said, “She’s a friendly dog…” (If I had a quarter every time I heard that excuse I’d retire now).
I replied “Yes, but my dog isn’t…” as she starting cowering, whining, and rolling her eyes…We go out of there but the bosses’ dog’s heart was going 150 beats a minute and shaking…We sat down and calmed off in Nantes Park.
I can just imagine the alternate scenarios involving a dog fight with a pitbull and a baby…
