webshafParticipantHooray for all of the folks who cleared their sidewalks and
steps…and that goes triple for the wonderful neighbors who cleared more than their own property!! It’s not too late. There are still many icy steps and walkways.February 8, 2017 at 12:42 pm #873498
SunuvaParticipantI was the only person on my block who shoveled the walkway. I’m surprised more people didn’t do it. It’s good exercise!

buttercupParticipantLease remember not all of us have the ability to shovel our walkways. Some of us go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. Some do not have the physical capability to shovel it. Others do not have the equipment or money to purchase. Can you offer to loan your equipment? Help them out by clearing sidewalks for them. Please remember that essential personnel often put in overtime to cover for the employees who cannot make it to work. …..

rwParticipantI cleared my sidewalk first thing in the morning. A broom did the trick for most of it, except for where pedestrians had already been through. It’s a point of pride to me that after 25 years here I still haven’t purchased a snow shovel. The broom and my spade do the trick.
As a teen, I remember opening our garage door in Indiana and finding snow piled higher than the garage door. My goal that year was simply to make a path to the street in case we had an emergency. Seattle snows are a piece of cake compared to that…. except when the snow becomes compacted before you can shovel it.

sbreParticipantI’m one of those who clear the sidewalks around my home, additionally down the hill to the metro stop.
I stopped using a snow-shovel long ago as it increases the chance of pulling muscles as it increases the amount of weight you lift and toss. I use a regular flat-nosed shovel instead. Yes it takes more time out its never caused a nagging injury.
I happen to enjoy the physical work AND the conversations with those passing by while I’m in the process.

brian_hughesParticipantIt’s an obligation to remove the snow/ice from your sidewalk, per the Seattle Municipal Code:
15.48.010 – Snow and ice removal.
It is the responsibility of the owner or occupant of private property to remove snow and ice on the sidewalks abutting his or her property in a timely manner and, if practical, prevent its becoming or remaining in an icy, ridged, uneven or humped condition or in a condition which is potentially hazardous to users of the public sidewalks.(Ord. 117569 § 121, 1995; Ord. 90047 § 39, 1961.)
That said, I’m happy to help any of my neighbors shovel snow. I work for beer.
