metrognomeParticipantI thought the first half of this article was pretty interesting … if we can’t limit corporate contributions, should we require elected officials to wear the logos of their top 10 ‘sponsors’ during public legislative sessions? Is that enough or should we go further?
The second half of the proposal is pretty interesting too … maybe we should have so many legislators that it would be impossible to afford to be able to buy a majority.
This should be a fun discussion to start the new year!

miwsParticipantI’ll have to read those later. Been on the go all day, and the brain is frazzled.
That being said, I don’t even need to read those to give a resounding YES!
There’s been at least one meme/cartoon floating around for awhile saying as much, and I always do a mental fist pump when I see it.
Also, I would say the larger the donation, the larger the “decal”.

redblackParticipantconsidering that over half of congress are millionaires, i think they’ll probably find the idea distasteful.
but since they, their campaign donors, and their lobbyist friends are the people who have turned the federal legislature into a bad joke, i say we make them do it.

JKBParticipantBy executive order, of course

JoBParticipantnow wouldn’t that be fun
the executive order would likely not last past the inauguration of the next president but it would be informative while it lasted…

JoBParticipantJKB
can you explain to me why executive orders are such a big deal for you with this particular President?
because his use of executive order hasn’t been excessive if you compare him to modern presidencies ..
in fact he is still on track to end below his predecessor’s numbers and far below the higher users…

what makes them suddenly an issue?

JKBParticipantI saw two news articles in succession: one on Marco Rubio calling for a Constitutional Convention immediately upon his (presumed) inauguration, and the other about Barack Obama planning to enact gun control via executive order. Incumbent or would-be officials evading the very legislative system they swear to protect is something I object to, regardless of the specific cause being promoted.
Otherwise, you’ll have noticed this is a joke thread. Sponsor decals, chuckle, don’t get too wound up about it.
