First off, I should say that I don’t ever recall hearing of people being paid to post “opinions” on internet comment sites, until I read it here today.

That being said, I would compare it to people being paid to gather signatures on petitions, not to paid journalists.

I would be more apt to believe that someone doing either the sig gathering, or the posting, without pay, is speaking their true mind—they believe what they are campaigning for.

I really wonder what percentage of sig gatherers know exactly what the initiative is about. A paid one, that is just doing it to make a buck, may just skim over it, or go through a quick orientation, to memorize a few talking points, just as a paid commenter, could copy and paste talking points to various comment sites.

Oh geez, mike! Who cares whether a signature gatherer is volunteer or paid? How many initiatives get a signature because the stranger who holds the clipboard and approaches you is a True Believer? And how many are signed because the clipboard-holder, volunteer or not, can thoroughly answer the questions asked? Think about it. Paid gatherers are often paid, per signature. There’s an incentive, right there, to gain a depth of knowledge. True Believer or Not.

Again, Authenticity is different than Credibility.

You would be out collecting signatures to repeal public library funding if the price was right. Hell if the Service Employee Union could organize them, they would be a new constituent. I say the person willing to pay the petition signers has the dedication. This is the land of cut and paste. Amen brother… Jam that viagra juiced dude… he better be wearing his galoshes .. that’s on him or her… take your pick .. but I won’t sanction the taking of a viable life… except RIHM… there is your compromise… won’t tale it? Of course not, liberals don’t take compromises and then are dumbfounded when they get none.

Oh silly me, for being so goddamn idealistic that I think there still might be people out there that support a cause because they believe in it!

I’m sure there are still some, mike.

But that wasn’t your question. You didn’t ask: are there any True Believers left? You asked how a post could be considered credible, without the poster being a True Believer.

    Meg..

I guess I have the advantage here. Having met many of the posters on both sides of the political divide I can assure you that pretty much..these are your neighbors..

And this seems as good place to talk with them as any.

Ah. So you must have been against the invasion of Iraq then, because that took lots of viable lives. Including lots of children’s lives.

Same for the thing in Afghanistan. You must be against that, too, right?

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. I used the word ‘credibility’, when I should used the word ‘authenticity’.

“Oh geez, mike! Who cares whether a signature gatherer is volunteer or paid?”

Apparently a lot of people care since this was the subject of a lawsuit a few years ago that went to the state Supreme Court. Unfortunately, the court ruled that it was ok to pay them. Personally, I think it undermines the spirit and purpose of the constitutional process which is to give citizens a method to bring issues of importance to the forefront if they feel the legislature is not doing their job. With the payments, it makes it merely another way to inject special interest money into the process. Sad, really.

meg: yeah, i am an atheist. i was raised catholic.

that’s religion and believing the seen versus the unseen.

and i suppose it’s possible that sammysue just woke up one day and lost its altruism and compassion for its countrymen. what i’m saying is that there was always a conservative lurking in sammysue’s heart; it was just looking for an excuse to exert itself.

This is really easy but does not surprise me that liberals cannot figure it out.

Most conservatives remain in the closet in Seattle. If one were to say Obama has a very poor economy, they fear (Rightly) that they will be called a racist. Liberals do that frequently.

Comment and the voting booth are two of the only places conservatives can really say what they believe. Liberals do not have that problem so the comment section is not really that needed to express themselves.

Now on the economy. Obama has place 12 million more Americans on Food Stamps/Debit SNAP cards during his administration. More than the last 5 presidents combined. Yes liberals that means they are unemployed but the Flaky Obama administrations does not count them as unemployed.

    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2016/jul/21/donald-trump/trump-43-million-americans-food-stamps/

Additionally, he added more debt, 10 Trillion, than all previous presidents combined. Yes that is George Washington 1776 – 2007 George Bush. So Obama Economy is the gift that keeps on giving now that interest rates increase. I would be openly called a racist by many liberals if I mention these facts outside of comments section.

Conservatives have few venues and I am surprised it is only 20 to 1. 1/2 the population is effectively silenced due to political correctness and name calling brought on by liberals.

Have a nice day you liberals.

first…this thread is 4 years old…second…you say liberal like it’s a dirty word, like liberals are something to be abhored. Good grief, can people not get beyond generalized labels? You’re conservative, and frankly , some conservative Repubs are just like the trump…sexist, racist, misogynist, xenophobic…all those buzz words, like white nationalist, “alt”-right (hate that term), white supremacist. But damn, I would never generalize that it actually fits you. Or should I? You can answer that. But it’s damned sad that you, a WS neighbor, actually does that. You like your next door neighbors? Maybe they’re some of that dastardly “liberal” group ! Oh, no, better not be chummy with them, for god’s sake, it might rub off…and you know how horrible that can be. Can’t we judge (if we should even) on character, and not label? I consider myself “liberal”, but you don’t know me, and have no idea what/who/why I am the way I am, and what I truly believe.

    gee, i dunno, fuego.

i am far more successful at my construction job under obama than i have been since… well, like forever.

no, sir. it really – seriously – does not suck building more stuff for gates, schultz, allen, bezos, selig, boeing, weyerhauser, the state of washington, WSDOT, the cities of seattle, bellevue, redmond, issaquah, etc., ad nauseum, et al.

go back to WND. we’re trying to build america here with local, regional, and national money and we would appreciate it if you would stop interrupting us.
