JeannieParticipantBonnie, what an awful ordeal for you and your daughter! I’d like to think I’d call 911. Frankly, the whole notion of West Seattle being particularly neighborly, more than other parts of the city, is, I think, a myth. West Seattle is no more neighborly than other neighborhoods. And it won’t get any better as we endure unbridled growth.

scottParticipantWow, boo on the honking (unless they were trying to scare the guy or something). I’m concerned though that if it took five police officers to bring the man down, maybe it wouldn’t have turned out very well if any random passers-by tried to intervene.

BonnieParticipantOf course I wouldn’t want anybody to intervene, but honking at me when I was in a serious situation? Maybe they did try to scare them or didn’t realize while I was in the middle of the road but to just drive by and pretend not to see? Really?

WSBKeymasterBonnie, sorry to hear this, but separate from the issue you raise … was this 37th/Henderson vicinity? Someone asked us about an arrest with a “guy on the ground” this morning and I didn’t have an answer for them. – TR

BonnieParticipantYes. That was what it was. I texted you info about it.

BonnieParticipantWas I supposed to run over him? Really? I’m going to run over a person? He had his body right in front of and on my car that I would run over him. And by the way I did drive away and the police came right as I drove about a block away. I guess I should have figured that coming to the blog would have brought out the victim blamers.

WSBKeymasterBlaming victims is strictly against WSB rules. But, unlike news-story comments, we don’t see most forum posts, as this is a reader-initiated area, unless they are flagged. If you don’t have something helpful, informative, or kind to say, when someone is clearly trying to vent about a frightening and frustrating situation, just move on to something else. To flag something, please e-mail us – editor@westseattleblog.com – thanks. – TR

jenwswaParticipantI’m sorry to hear that you were also frightened and intimidated by the man on 37th & Henderson this morning. I was walking along Henderson headed to the bus this morning and saw this man in the middle of street coming toward a woman in her car, yelling at her and throwing a rock at her car as she reversed and then drove down the alley. I called 911 immediately while the man jumped onto the front of another moving car, and confronted a woman and her young son as they got in their car. He also walked toward me asking if he was intimidating me. I don’t remember any honking, so I must have been there just before you. I didn’t feel comfortable waiting for police to arrive, but as my bus was going up 35th, I saw police headed to the scene and I received a call from police that they were with the man. They said several people had called 911. They were trying to reach the woman who had reported the man had jumped on her car. Sadly, this may have happened to several people. Please know that a lot of neighbors do care!

BonnieParticipantThanks Jenwswa, yes it was me whose car he jumped on and yes, I did stick around to make sure everything was okay (because unlike a previous poster whose post was deleted I do not drive off and run over people!) Thanks for your kind words. My daughter and I are still very upset.
