We have a 16-year old second car that is not worth very much and only gets driven about twice a month, so we cringe anytime we need to put any money into the car. The battery was going dead, so I began getting quotes. Shocked at the $200+ quotes for battery replacement / install, I posted a request on the Blog yesterday asking for a recommendation for car battery replacement. A poster recommended Roxbury Complete Auto Supply, which I visited. For just $119, they sold me a new battery and installed it for free. The owner installed it himself. This saved me a good amount of money.

As our VW Jetta is 16 years old, I have noticed that the A/C is barely cooling. I contacted a local VW shop, and also contact Carter VW today. They wanted $200 to $300 to check the cooling system, add coolant, add dye, and have me come back and check for leaks. I kept emphasizing that this is a car that is worth very little money and gets very little use. Can’t we just add some new coolant and see if that works? After all, it has not had any coolant installed for 16 years. We could easily ditch this second car and take Uber for the next two years for what these mechanics wanted to charge us. They insisted on the comprehensive process which would have resulted in costs equal to about 20% of the car’s value.

I then thought of Roxbury Complete Auto Supply which was very helpful yesterday with my battery replacement. I called the owner and told him my dilemma. He said to bring the car by and he would see if he could install some new coolant for me. He added one can of coolant for $15 and we saw immediate results. I asked if we should add a second can (only an additional $15). He suggested driving the car home with the A/C on full and see if I am pleased with the cooling. I did that and had to turn off the A/C as the inside of the car was getting too cold! 100% improvement for just $15!

Wow, what an awesome, local, independent business with excellent customer service. During both visits, I was impressed by the rapport the owner had with his community. He seemed to know every customer by name. All told, in two days this local business saved us over $300 and provided incredible customer service that is rare to find today.

Kudos to Roxbury Complete Auto Supply for being a great, local West Seattle business.

Yes, Roxbury is the best auto parts house in town, if not one of the best family owned businesses in Seattle.
They carry top quality replacement parts at reasonable prices. If they don’t have what you need they’ll happily order it for you and have it the next day.
I have seen them help out customers like yourself on numerous occasions, always with good advice.
Top notch place, and I say that as a Master Mechanic with 35+ years in the trade.
No reason to go anywhere else.

They are the best! Now I am thinking of going to them with my 20 year old Audi that the A/C isn’t working well!

Heh, I’m not the only one. My MK3 Jetta’s AC needed a bottle of coolant added to the system a few years ago with no real damage causing it, just nearly two decades of slow permeation of the seals/rubber/etc (like how mylar balloons go flat).

They are the best! Every time I’ve gone in there they get exactly what I need and half the time install it for me. Super great.
