The traffic is a mess on 4th Ave S between the WS Bridge and the stadiums due to the repaving project (http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/pave_4s.htm). I travel that road every day, and I’ve never thought that it needed repaving. It seems in pretty good shape, unlike Delridge and 35th, where every time I drive on those roads, I wish they’d get completely re-done.
I wonder how the city comes up with their priority list for repaving projects? I know 4th Ave S gets a lot more traffic volume than West Seattle arterials, but I’ve never noticed any potholes or crumbling pavement on that stretch of 4th Ave S, while I have to constantly dodge craters along Delridge.
I’m not looking forward to the next 6 months of repaving-related traffic. The exit to 1st Ave S gets so backed up now for the same reason, because people are avoiding 4th. So, that’s not a good alternative either. If anyone has any more information as to why 4th Ave S needs repaving than what is on the SDOT website, I’d like to know. Then maybe I’d feel less resentment over the traffic hassles the project is causing.
