grogParticipantWOW!!!!
Thank you all for your informative responses.
Only 1 out of 25 was leaning toward the hateful side, so that worked out pretty well. And to tell you the truth, our furniture was never part of the equation at all. Mostly it was regarding what long-term and/or negative effects de-clawing would have on the animals (and the free-roaming medium sized birds in our home, no need to offer info regarding the birds as we’ve already explored that side of it)
After reading them all and doing some additional internet-exploration we have concluded that when we do bring the two kittens into our home their nails will remain and we will establish a somewhat regular filing and clipping of them, by us.
So now that we’ve gotten all of our questions answered, a vet lined up and a clearer understanding of what we’re getting ourselves into, now its time to start kitten-proofing our home and acquiring those items needed to make it a place that provides all the necessary tools (bowls, litter box, brushes, nail file and cutter, scratch posts and lounging stand, etc) for them to live and grow happily and healthy.
And yes, they will be sniped, chipped and vaccinated.
Thank you again west Seattle neighbors!!!

furryfacesParticipantWe are very impressed, and grateful, for how you went about researching what is best for your pending kitties. Humane decision–well done.
It sounds like you have not yet adopted your new family members so wanted to let you know of an upcoming cat’n’kitten adoption event.
Kitty Harbor is having a Special Adoption event the weekend of Jan 19th and 20th, from noon – 6 pm, both days. There will be 40+ Adult cats, teenagers (over 6 months), and kittens (10 weeks to 6 months). This just may be your opportunity to find two new loves of your life. Just so you know, kittens under 6 months old must be adopted in pairs unless their is already another cat friendly cat in the household.
Kitty Harbor’s Info is:

hammerheadParticipantLets NOT forget Friends of the animal foundation. They have lots of younger cats at Next to Nature.
All fixed, vaccinated, dewormed, and advantage. All cats are rescued locally.
Of course there is Seattle animal shelter, humane society and King count animal shelter.
Please just do not adopt from craig’s list.

elikapekaParticipantGreat thread, everybody!
Grog, the kitties that come to live with you are going to be very lucky indeed – it’s great that you were willing to put yourself out there with your questions.
And my sister lives successfully with some birds and a cat – though she usually puts the cat in a separate room when the birds are out and about or else keeps a close eye on things. They’re small birds, though.

redblackParticipantcongrats, grog. thanks for doing the right thing…
not merely for adopting an overpopulated species of weird and fun animals, but for choosing to be good and responsible stewards.
cheers to you, and may you and your cats have great lives together.
did your head explode?
it will.
