Or at all, of course, but tailgating buses, which by definition make frequent stops, is especially pointless.
This morning my bus driver had to leave me behind because someone was following him so closely that he couldn’t safely stop at the bus stop.
I get it that our streets, even some of our arterials, are pretty narrow, and it can be frustrating to be behind a bus. That person had other options, though: they could have passed the bus when it was legal and safe to do so; they could have diverted a block and gotten ahead of the bus; or they could have just observed a safe and legal following distance knowing that they were behind a bus that was going to need to stop.
Instead, I’m late for work, and that bus driver is probably going to be worrying all day that I’m going to complain to Metro. And for what? I doubt the tailgating driver got where they were going any sooner.
Let’s please remember that we all have places to get to, the roads exist so that we can all get to those places, and when we’re out there on the roads we have a responsibility to take each other into account.
