Angelescrest, he is OK now, but he has a giant scar on his arm, which was torn open by the dog. Thanks for asking.

    Semele, correct on all counts!

All breeds bite – no question there. The stats for that are all over the board. But fighting/guard dogs top the list for human kills in every study done to date. And I’m sure you can find a news story of a lab killing someone – but you’d have trouble coming up with 50. That’s no effort with the pit bull.

Owners are the problem, agreed – but that includes owners who are in denial that breeding for traits works, and that their (undeniably sweet) pet, under the right conditions, will go for the kill, just like a sheltie who’s never seen sheep in its life will herd.

I’m not for breed bans, and there’s no denying that pits make great pets. I’m just against dangerous ignorance; they require extra monitoring.

is breeding why some dog owners obviously need extra monitoring ?

or is that lack of breeding?

    i get confused.

I am SO sorry! I am so glad the dog released. I can’t imagine how scary that must have been for you and your family. I walk in that area regularly and will keep my eyes out for sure. One of my dogs was almost killed by a pit several years ago. The owner ran off. I know there are several “responsible” owners out there who have “nice” dogs, but I will never trust the breed. There are just too many horror stories. I am so sorry.

    Did anyone describe the owner(s)?

I live in the Highpoint neighborhood and keep an eye one several off leash idiots. I have not seen a loose pit bull in about a year in my end (north end of Highpoint)

Hi Ken. Here is the description I gave the police and paramedics:

The male who ran over from the basketball court is about 5’10” with shoulder length black curly hair, in his early 20’s. Of the 2 females who “had” the dog, one was in her teens and the other maybe in her early 30’s. The older female had shorts on and appeared to be wearing shin braces or some very stiff turquoise socks which came up to her knees. The fabric had a diamond pattern. The females were also with an approximately 2 year old girl. All were of Pacific Islander decent.

One fact I forgot to mention in my original post is that the officer who responded told me to call 911 if I see this dog again because this is starting to becoming a problem.
