On Thursday around 6:00 I was driving eastbound on the ground-level part of the ramp from Admiral to the high bridge, and I had to slow down to let a peacock cross the road. It went heading along the fence by Nucor. I didn’t have a chance to capture a picture. Does anyone know if there is a wandering population in the greenbelt, or a small farm or garden that keeps them in West Seattle?
Are you sure it wasn’t the alleged turkey we’ve been reporting on via reader photos? Some thought it might be a peahen. More thought, turkey. It’s been seen from Pigeon Point to almost-Beach Drive:
someone on a FB page that I belong to reported seeing one (w/picture) on 23rd in Pigeon Point..was hard to tell if turkey or peahen from picture…looked for the waddle…hard to see…
Someone in Highland Park used to keep peacocks; we’d hear them sometimes in the morning. (Their calls are rather alarming. They sound like someone screaming.) Haven’t seen or heard them in years though.
Yeah, you’re right, that turkey is the bird I saw! Going 30, just kind of saw a large bird with long legs. There used to be peacocks near my old house in Renton, so I kind of jumped to that conclusion.
