SoAdmiralKParticipantThere is a small park at this corner that gets very little use and has a pea patch that hasn’t been touched in a very long time. Most folks who use the park have their small children or pets with them. The fence that is around it is only a frame and does not prevent kids or pets from running into the street. We have seen several close calls while walking our dog. It’s a great spot that people should be using all the time, but safety seems to be a concern. Does anyone know the history of that corner or any info about it? It’s been this way since we moved into the neighborhood in 2009.

happywalkerParticipantI know there used to be (1960 and 1970’s)a decent sized grocery store there, with parking lot. A neighbors small beagle named Susie used to go in and take a bag of cookies and walk out every so often. Tore it down left a small space and of course built on the rest…Those were the days.

miwsParticipantParcel Viewer shows it as being part of Seattle Parks for just over three years now, after several years of ownership by The Mount, and then being owned by Seattle Housing Authority before that:

I searched for “Meade Park” on Parks’ website, but no listing for it.

CarDriverParticipantThe market there was “LoMart” and it was good sized. There also was a gas station there-Chevron?. Fuzzy memory say’s it was late ’70’s when they were torn down to build the apartment building and park/low income housing.

WSBKeymasterWe’ve mentioned this a few times recently in connection with the Seattle Parks development of the Junction landbanked site. This is another “landbanked” site to be developed in the future as a full-fledged park – West Seattle has three landbanked sites (the city bought the land before having $ for park development) in all, mapped here:
http://www.seattle.gov/documents/departments/parkdistrict/projects/land_bank_sites.pdfSome past stories/mentions about 48th and Charlestown:
West Seattle projects included in mayor’s first Parks District budget proposal
48th and Charlestown site makes list of final park-levy Opportunity Fund recommendations
No timetable for developing it as a park has been announced; I need to check with Parks one of these days. The third West Seattle landbanked site, the Morgan Junction Park expansion lot, is going into discussions soon.

SoAdmiralKParticipantThank you @wsb for the info! Much appreciated. I look forward to action being taken in that spot in the future.
