NOW is the time to register for pre-schools. So start looking around at all the wonderful options West Seattle has to offer. January and February are big Open House months and you don’t want to miss those.

There is a South end Pre-school fair being put on by Parent Map on Sunday January 13th 2pm to 4pm at the Mount Baker Community Center.

And there is a great West Seattle only Pre-School fair on Monday Jan 14th at St Johns church across from the PCC. 5:30 to 7:30pm.

Bring the family and check out lots of local options.

I’ve got a two year old! This thread got me thinking. Is there a difference between a preschool and daycare? For example, our daycare has a “pre-school” room. But I’m thinking that a dedicated pre-school is more of a 3 or 4 hour per day service and a daycare type pre-school is a 9 hour per day service. Is that sort of correct? I’m not trying to be a wise guy. I really don’t know.

Any good childcare is doing pre-school but essentially you are correct, the difference in most peoples minds is that ‘just a pre-school’ is 3 or 4 hours a couple of days a week.

The technicality here is that pre-schools that only offer a half day program, less than 4 hours a day, do not need to be licensed by the State however that dosn’t always mean they are not running a high quality program, just make sure you do your homework. And if they offer for you to stay longer than 4 hours on any day then it’s not legal and you should report them.

Depending on the schedule you need, full time or half day, you will be able to find a number of good childcares and pre-schools in the West Seattle area.

Thanks CSWS. So a dedicated pre-school won’t really be an option for our child. We require a “school day” that is 9 hours long and meets year-round. Basically, we need daycare.

As our child reaches three, though, we will be a bit more proactive in determining what type of daycare facility is best for our daughter.
