the politics of this election will literally affect the lives of many in a very negative way.

Because it certainly isn’t America you are fighting for when you advocate for the destruction of individual freedom through the collective ideology of progressivism where there is no such thing as “unalienable rights”. I cannot image how any thinking person can be fooled by such pandering leftist garbage cited in your article. You want democracy, yet you want people in power who despise it. In reality, you just want mob rule as long as the mob is on your side.

PLSParticipantI’m fairly certain progressives (when did progress get such a nasty connotation?) are just as interested in the original unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as anyone. I don’t think any portion of the political spectrum has a monopoly on supporting, or demeaning, them. And one could easily tweak your last line for many non-Progressives to say that “you want individual freedom as long as the individual is on my side.”

JanSParticipantI read some posts by some people , and the first thought that enters my mind is “You are so full of crap”…and then “offensive, rude, insulting”. And we wonder why we’re so divisive. as a country. For instance…someone here (the OP) shared an article…the OP did not write it…just shared it…and immediately another commenter became insulting…didn’t discuss the pros and con of said article, just was insulting, mean and…wait for it…nasty.
and I agree…we should not shut up. AMERICA (sorry Dave…you own the “K”) *IS* WORTH FIGHTING FOR.

I don’t know what you think America is.. but i am pretty sure that it is not the United States of America that my great grandparents and grandparents and parents were willing to give their lives to defend… nor is the one in which i have invested my entire life.
You may be willing to cede our state department to someone who intentionally violated national security laws.. or our education department to someone who has fought to defund public education.. or our health and welfare department to someone who is more interested in figuring out how to hand more of our publicly funded healthcare dollars to insurance companies than to the citizens who have paid into those accounts.. or our banking system over to someone who at the very least benefitted hugely from helping to engineer the financial crisis that almost tanked our nation… or our Presidency over to someone who thinks it’s just another business deal… but i am not.
I am not willing to live in some sanitized fantasy version of post apocalyptic America in which might makes right and only a few survive…
I can see that pisses you off.. after all you think you and yours won some kind of mandate in the last election… if that is so.. and i don’t think history is going to show that this election was won fairly and squarely… you did so by taking on some pretty ugly bed partners… and you think that should win you something.. like some kind of validation.
Nope.. sorry.. it doesn’t.
Patriots are people who will stand up for their country… for the democracy for which it stands.. not a bunch of bullies who hide the ugliness of their beliefs and policies behind cherry picked definitions and limited portions of the constitution… as though the only thing of value that has ever occurred in this country happened over 200 years ago… as though they would actually be willing to take up those arms they so vigorously defend even when they take away the safety of our public spaces.. in defense of any life other than their own.
You keep on blaming everyone but yourself.. because by the time they get around to you.. and trust me they will.. you are likely to find that there aren’t many left to defend you.
And i will fight for the nation that starts with our preamble
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
I know i have made the better choice. it is the one i have invested a lifetime in.. 5 decades of serious political, social and financial investment…
I am not willing to give that away to someone who does not understand the basic tenants of democracy.

And now…as a vet myself (Vietnam Era), I will possibly be gifted with the likes of Sarah Palin calling the shots for the entire VA…don’t even try and defend her as a good choice. I am appalled that anyone in their right mind would think that she is qualified to run anything….oh, wait…
I defended this country for that to decide the legacy of our military now?

JTBParticipantJoB. Well said. But I fear we are at a point where decay of the system will be the operative force with which we will have to concern ourselves. Specifically, local and regional action to defend the rights and freedoms you identify will be necessary in order to withstand the systemic forces gnawing away at our collective spirit. How odd that the notion of a West Coast entity, a federation including California, Oregon and Washington seems so perfectly sensible in nature and function to the us versus them sentiment, the anti-government mindset that has understandably been embraced by much of the country. It seems we western states have gone through a series of clearly defined political stages which ultimately informed a collective appreciation that we have to work together. The remarkable changes in California over the last ten years are illustrative for what can be accomplished when ideology is dropped and people come together to work on problems.

JoBParticipantJTB.. we would have to drop our breadbaskets to secede.. and i fear that wouldn’t work out well for us. We have too many people.
but i do agree that taking control of our communities is the only viable approach. How we will do that in the face of oppression is going to be interesting.
I am torn between hoping i live long enough to see it and not really wanting to stick around another half century.Where is that little island in the pacific when you need it ;-)

PLSParticipantDon’t worry, Jan – Palin won’t get the nod. Trump will choose Concerned Veterans for America’s former CEO Pete Hegseth. He’s already put one of CVA’s top guys, Darin Selnick, on the VA landing team.
So good news is likely no Palin. Bad news is that CVA’s recommendation was to dismantle 75% of the VA infrastructure and move to a voucher/medicare model to “allow” vets to seek care at public hospitals. Great in theory until you know enough about the VA to understand the amount of time and effort spent on coordinating care and transportation that will all fall back on the patient. Plus the loss of the community. And they want to strip the employee unions out, which I’m not against as I’d love to see more accountability, but recruiting talented people to the VA is already hard enough. But if you only need 1 out of the existing 4 people, maybe it’ll work. It’ll certainly be a cluster for a long while though.December 1, 2016 at 9:52 am #866777
