CandrewB1ParticipantIt’s still a bit early, but has anyone noticed the pre-7:30 morning commute more congested?

JanSParticipantand that would have what to do with the local school schedules? Maybe I’m dense, but…summer is over, vacations are over, and there are more than a few reasons that the commute is bad…people going to work being one of the biggest – no more lazing around in the back yard…or on a beach somewhere….time to crack the whip :D

FranciParticipantYep, just wait till the UofW starts up for Fall Quarter. ;)

BonnieParticipantIt probably does have to do with the new school schedule and school starting so early. Everybody is driving their kids to school before 7:30am. JanS, most elementary kids started after 8:40 am last year, this year they are starting at 7:55am and it means people are on the road earlier. Not all kids take the bus.

newnativeParticipantYes, but some are starting later, so the number shouldn’t be any different due to schedule changes. Could there be that many people that take their kids out of West Seattle to school to affect traffic?

BonnieParticipantMostly the middle and HS are starting later and not as many parents drive them. Some do of course. I still drive mine. I wonder if the schedules have shifted and parents are now on the road earlier and heading downtown earlier to work?? All I know is that traffic is 10X worse than it was just 5 years ago. :(

GinaParticipantI’m sure out and about earlier, now that a loudspeaker makes motivational announcements and recites the Pledge of Allegiance at 8:02am Monday through Friday at the local elementary school.

JanSParticipantyes, but…the OP was talking about the commute, I ASSume, to get downtown…we don’t ship kids in from other areas or out to other areas unless they go to private school, mostly. I know there would be exceptions..(and I know that a lot of kids are no longer bussed, I do not live under a rock, for goodness sake). My one kid is grown and a mom now. I really didn’t realize that local school kids being taken to and from school affects the commute to downtown so much.
We also have to realize that the density of people living in WS has grown immensely in the last 5 years, since we turned into a developer nation over here…quite a few people moving into the new apartments all over from outside of West Seattle…and those newcomers have to go to work, too.
