For the last few days I’ve been walking by a 10 pound bag of potatoes caught on the barbed wire part of a fence 6-7 feet off the ground. Every time I wonder how the heck they got there.

If you want to check it out yourself, they’re on the fence at the storage lot behind the Les Schwab at 38th SW/Alaska. Any ideas?? Do you know the story behind this odd sight?

This could be the beginning of a great story. Neil Gaiman’s “Fortunately the Milk” comes to mind…

A highly elaborate scheme to get you to look at potatoes on a fence.

Art? Science? Divine intervention? It can be anything you want! Brilliant!

Not me. I’d hang individual potatoes and I’d decorate them. Not with anything poisonous, mind.

It’s not recommended to eat potato eyes or green potatoes as they can contain solanine which is very toxic and can cause CNS damage, paralysis, numbness, and other unpleasant symptoms. It also requires gastric lavage (stomach pumping) to treat along with other unpleasant treatments.

The moral of the story is to save the potato eyes. Put them in a jar. Look at them every so often. If they start to look back call a psychiatrist.

if the potato eyes start to look back

“The Mystery of the Fence Potatoes” was one of my favorite Nancy Drew books.

JoB, but then there will be more…eyes watching. Eyes everywhere.

Can I send potato eyes to the White House? What will they see?
