    Hello,

It seems every year this question is asked, but local residents are never given a satisfied solution. What will it take to get the motorcycle riders and auto enthusiasts to stop revving and speeding their vehicles on Beach Drive at Constellation Park? This weekend was particularly loud, we are about four blocks away from that area and we found the noise to be quite high in volume.

I read a post on the blog last year that stated the police just do not have the manpower to do anything about it, which I feel is a weak response. Is there anyone else we can contact to voice our concerns? It seems that the city is missing out on an opportunity to make revenue in tickets and satisfy the local residents that deal with the noise and reckless driving.

I just don’t want it to take someone getting hurt in order to effect changes in this matter.

    Thank you.

Or anywhere along Beach Drive, for that matter? It’s been driving me crazy. I spoke with a pulled-over driver of one of those really loud little sports cars a week or so ago to ask them to please be considerate of folks who were trying to enjoy the peaceful park, and you can imagine the response I got. It’s so aggravating knowing not only are they behaving dangerously when they speed, but they are also violating noise ordinances and there seems to be absolutely no will to enforce either issue. And don’t get me started on the car stereos…

I can tell you that the cops booting people out of the empty Don Armeni boat ramp isn’t helping your cause. I have been down in Alki a few times now and watched the cops sweep the boat ramp only for everyone to move down to constellation.

Sorry but when you live right across from a park in a beautiful area you are going to have a lot or people hanging out and there is NOTHING you can do to stop it.

One time last summer I was hanging out down there and someone peeled out as they were leaving. That got a bunch of residents outside standing there obviously calling the cops after he was long gone. They stood out there for 30-40 min waiting for the cops just to tell them that the people doing burnouts left. This is a monumental waste of the police departments time.

Wow, the cops showed up in 30-40 minutes for a noise complaint? That’s got to be some kind of record. My neighbors and I called about automatic gunfire a few months back and it took about that long for the cops to show up for that. Noise complaints don’t even make it to the response list during the high summer. The cops I’ve talked to say they are still at 1990s staffing levels while our population has increased far beyond what they can handle.

I don’t mind lots of people hanging around a beautiful place where I’m lucky enough to live, I just wish they’d be courteous about it. White noise and ear plugs aren’t enough to sleep through some of those engines and stereos. But the speeding IS a legitimate public safety issue, and points to other bad behavior–last summer as I was trying to take pictures of drag racers in front of my house to send to the cops, one of them threw a lit firework at me. Hate to think what would have happened if they had had a gun.
