I haven’t done the early morning commute for quite a while. I’m by Jefferson Square and I’d like to be at 3rd and Columbia by 8:15am tomorrow. When should I head out? Thanks.February 6, 2013 at 4:21 am #784106
I live a few blocks from you and work at Seneca/3rd. On the rare occasion that I have to drive in, I’ve had to leave at 7:15 to assure I can get to work at 8, and even then I’ve been late if there are problems that morning. (I drove in a week ago when an accident happened on 99, left at 7:25 and got into work at 8:30.) If you absolutely must be there by 8:15, I probably would leave between 7:15 and 7:30 just to be sure. Someone who does the trip more regularly might have a different opinion – I only do it every 2-3 months and seem to find the morning that everything goes wrong. :)February 6, 2013 at 4:36 am #784107
Don’t tell anyone (ha) but the quickest way downtown in the morning is to take the new 4th exit, not 99. Unless there’s a wreck, you should be able to leave at 7:30 and make it with time to spare.February 6, 2013 at 4:36 am #784108
leave now!!!! I kid you! But give yourself at least 30 to 40 minutes over what you think you need.February 6, 2013 at 4:47 am #784109February 6, 2013 at 4:50 am #784110
Are you driving Beaglenut? Or busing it? If you drive yourself, 7:15 at the latest, otherwise if you take a C Rapid Ride and join the scrum at Alaska and California. Save parking if you get on.February 6, 2013 at 3:27 pm #784111February 6, 2013 at 4:07 pm #784112
House to parking spot was 32 minutes exactly (took 99). Not as bad as I remember it being but 5 days a week would test my patience.February 6, 2013 at 4:30 pm #784113
It’s a crap shoot. I go to Beacon Hill daily and some days it’s a 15 min drive, other days its over 30.February 6, 2013 at 9:01 pm #784114
MB : I know that all too well. :-/ Fortunately I’ve had jobs that allowed me to get there early or late and work through my normal hours.February 6, 2013 at 9:20 pm #784115
Beaglenut – I’m very disappointed in you. 99? You took 99 after I shared my top secret short cut with you? :-) JK
I timed it this morning (driving – I usually take the bus). Left the house at 7:11 (Alaska Junction area) and got to 3rd/Union and into a spot in the parking garage at 7:35.February 6, 2013 at 9:23 pm #784116
You beat me??? I honestly was tempted to take your tip but the second I see any kind of I-5 ramp backup (anything passed the 99 ramp) I get scared. :PFebruary 6, 2013 at 9:42 pm #784117
Beaglenut – my husband is OBSESSED with the fastest routes everywhere so I’ve learned some of his tricks. The right/middle lane that goes to I5 south doesn’t get as backed up as the left lane (northbound), and before it backs up you can get into the exit lane for 4th.February 7, 2013 at 12:30 am #784118
Not sure why I am saying this – but 4th is absolutely the best bet.
I leave home (Holy Rosary-ish) at 8:00 and pull into my garage at 5th and Marion by 8:25, latest. Only thing that holds me up is the random semi-truck backing into a loading dock. Very rare. Other than that, it slows down a tad by King Street – still not sure why.February 7, 2013 at 3:16 am #784119February 7, 2013 at 3:44 am #784120
