ViennaParticipantGreat to have Greek food back at Kokoras. We knew Spiro and Dee for 25 years starting with their little place in Des Moines. Miss them but the chef knows the recipes and I had a chance to chat with him a bit today at lunch. With Peel and Press opening a couple of years ago and a new place opening where Feedback Lounge was Morgan Junction is holding its own but wish some of the recent storefronts could also have been eateries.

Michael WaldoParticipantSince when did meanders become Kokoras?

HappyOnAlkiParticipantMichael Waldo, search “Meander’s” in the blog — MAY 11, 2016 8:50 AM was the beginning of the story, which has 65 comments — all you’ll ever want to know, and more . . . .

MeyerParticipantI really wish this new Kokoras had an online menu or some kind of update to online presense. Every time I search for them I don’t know if I’m reading the old Kokoras menu, the old, now closed Meander’s or the current ‘new’ Kokoras.
If there is anyone here who knows the owners – could you maybe recommend they start a simple Yelp page for their business?

dobroParticipantHas anyone eaten at this place recently? Are they serving the Kokorus recipes? Is it any good? We used to love the Kokorus gyros and were sad to see them go.

mbananaParticipantMy daughter and I ate there last Friday. I had the Greek salad and it was very good. The wait staff were friendly and my daughter was given crayons and a coloring book when we sat down which I appreciated. They seemed to be doing a brisk take out business that night. I plan on coming back with my husband.

dobroParticipantBump. Any other recent experiences at this restaurant?

CMPParticipantI ordered a gyro to go when they first reopened. It didn’t quite hit the spot like the original Kokora’s but then I’m pregnant so my tastes could be off. I’ll probably give them another try since I loved Kokora’s but may do a gyro salad instead since that was always my favorite.

JoBParticipantlast i heard the meat spit was not functional..
i don’t know if that has changed.September 2, 2016 at 7:03 pm #856572
mbananaParticipantJoB – I’m not sure how old your information is but as of last Friday the spit was working as my Greek salad came with a healthy amount of gyro meat that came from the spit.

JoBParticipantglad to hear it…

dobroParticipantI stopped by today as I passed the restaurant to check on the situation. It appears they are operating with the entire Kokoras menu. yippee! I didn’t get any food but I think I’ll try it this weekend.

JoBParticipantlet me know how it goes. i used to love their menu.

dobroParticipantJust had a tasty gyro that was just like the old Kokoras. I spoke with the wait staff and they are running the entire kokoras menu and the kitchen staff and chefs are from the old restaurant. So it is basically the same restaurant but with added hours and menu for their breakfast and lunch hours. I know there was a bunch of folderol when they first reopened (which I have no need to re-litigate or hear about) but it seems they’ve settled into recreating a format that was successful. I hope people hear about it and keep them open.
And they do have a new website that just got back up with the greek menu…

redblackParticipantbumping this. these guys rock!
i was starving after work and craving a (take-out) gyro. delicious! kokora’s makes a good keep-it-in-the-foil sloppy and loaded urban gyro. tender gyro meat, fresh veggies, great tzatsiki, pita-perfect.
spanakopita cooked just right.
the greek salad dressing is slightly sweet and complex. nicely-balanced green salad with requisite peppers, olives, cukes, ‘maters, and feta.
i had to stop to eating to write this review, but i’ll let you know how the baklava turns out…
i’m looking forward to a rainy-day breakfast, too.
it’s a little pricy – maybe 2.5 $$. but it’s well worth it if you believe in supporting local, hard-working restauranteurs.
thanks for being there, kokora’s!
