I’d appreciate guidance about drawing up a new will. For someone with little to leave behind, can free, downloadable forms that are notarized be just as binding as those provided by an attorney?

Absolutely. You can write a will on a napkin and it would be legal. Along with a will you should have a living power of attorney for what to do if you are ill and can’t make decisions and a power of attorney for health and financial matters. Good luck.

Thanks, Birdrescuer. I will search for those, too.

Myr-myr: note that the will must be in writing and you must have two witnesses who aren’t getting anything in the will present for your signing of it.

Yes, get your Advance Directives defined in your living will in case you should become incapacitated or need end-of-care care/decisions. This info is online too and varies by state.
