    Be safe out there, Jo.

I just heard a firecracker and heard others earlier this morning. >.<

In Arbor Heights, we had regular explosions from dinnertime to midnight last night. Then some A-hole set off an M-80 at 5:30 am this morning. There is no logic to it. Tiny brains, tinier gonads. Fireworks should carry some sort of inhalant that would render the user instantly sterile.

Not surprisingly, they’ve become more steady in my neighborhood as the day has worn on.

Dug out my container of earplugs, for when I go to bed tonight.

We spent yesterday on Mt Rainier.. not realizing that we should have spent the entire night there as well. We drove in our alley at just after midnight to find a fireworks display not two houses down.. so we drove out.

Mind you.. our alley contains two highly flammable structures and a lot of trees.. but one of my idiot neighbors thought it was a safe place for fireworks.

we tried to go home at 1.. with no luck. tried again at 2 .. deciding to just tough it out. The fireworks display coming from the area of the playfields on Thistle was still going strong at 2:30.. and i do mean strong. huge fireworks that are definitely not legal anywhere in the metro area.. set off consistently for hours.. well after the witching hour.

I knew the fireworks situation was bad.. but i had no idea that someone could set off what amounted to a municipal display for hours at a time well past midnight without a single break or caution from our local police.

    they can.

on an up note.. for those looking for a little peace on the 4th… our junctions were quiet..
at least.. they were well after midnight.

    Maddening.

My normal bedtime is around 10:00pm, sometimes, some time in the 9:00pm hour, but generally never later than 11:00pm, or maybe just a few minutes after.

Was very tired last evening, would have preferred going to bed around 9:00 or so, but stayed up, figuring that even with ear plugs it would be too loud, but also just to simply become more tired, hoping sleepiness would override the noise.

Went to bed just before 10:00, ear plugs in, and actually had very little, if any, trouble getting to sleep. Was very thankful for the cool day/evening, which also helped in getting good sleep.

Admiral Junction area…near Safeway…was quiet all day until about 9pm…it was not a constant thing, though. Did hear booms not too far away sporadically until 3am, though..stupid, stupid. There is a tongue in cheek book for parents/kids out there that should apply “Go The F*&k To Sleep”…

I live in the Alaska Junction and the fireworks weren’t *too* bad – I could hear them in the distance from the west. But around 10pm they got a little more voluminous, and moreso after 11, although not as bad as in other areas I’ve lived in. Also very noticeable were all the emergency vehicles since I do live right behind the fire station – which is probably why people don’t set them off right here. I fell asleep in the recliner and woke up at 12:30am to still hear some in the distance. I’m sorry for those living in “war zones” where it is much more intrusive. My cat was flinching from the fireworks, but they never got bad enough to send him running for the closet in hiding.

I called 911 because it was not stop aerial fireworks and bombs from 8pm until midnight in Arbor heights. 911 did not want to talk to me, transferred me to non-emergency line. It rang for 45 minutes so I hung up. My tax money at work. If this crap is illegal in Seattle, then why won’t my police cruise by and check it out. frustrating. The only bright spot was that it was not like last year with 92 degrees so I could at least keep my windows closed. Still, nerve wracking for me and my cats. I don’t mind a few fireworks, but four hours not stop is insane, disturbing, stressful and illegal. But our police don’t what to respond to calls about it.

Michael Waldo. There simply aren’t enough police officers to go check out every time someone calls. They even made an announcement before the 4th to NOT call 911, but to call the non-emergency #. Yes, they’re illegal in Seattle proper, but sadly, there really isn’t much they can do, especially if it calls them away from real emergencies. Thankfully, yes, it was a much cooler night, and windows could be kept closed. The people who decide to make things go Boom! at 2:30 and 3am have no sympathy from me, nor do they have much in the way of brains, I’m thinking…that’s when it would be nice to get a response.

Midnight – whoa! Rough times in west seattle indeed! I hope everyone has fully recovered from this horrible chain of events!

    no.. not midnight..
it was still going strong at 2:30 AM on the 4th.. a week night
and around 11 PM every single night since…
and that doesn’t count the booms that started some time around 10AM and never stop.. all day.. and well into the night

tonight we will get treated to the White Center display.. which will be over at a reasonable time I assume.. but our locals have already started and they are unlikely to end any time soon.

my only hope is that the idiots have run out of fuel…

i know.. vain hope. I saw the last minute sales when the stands closed :(

for a minute there i thought we were going to get a pass..
the fireworks ended in White Center and all was quiet
but then i guess people got home and they kept getting home till three or so
the fireworks were pretty much constant between 11PM and 3AM
    on July 13th

at what point do we all realize that this is absurd?
