squareeyesParticipantMoved to Seattle in August 1998 and to WS in May 2001. I love my hood! (but yardwork has certainly lost its appeal…)

BernickiMemberCame to Seattle in 1985, lived on Capitol Hill and in Wallingford before moving to West Seattle in 1996. And I have no plans to leave!
West Seattle has changed a LOT in 12 years.

andreaParticipantI too am one of those rare breeds that was born and raised in WS. My brother, sister and I did the private school route, with Hope Lutheran elementary and Seattle Lutheran HS rounding us out to be the super cool adults we are today. I did 4+ years over in eastern WA as WSU for college (Go COUGS!!), but came back to WS afterward to start my post-grad life. My dad is a native West Seattlite also and is a ’60 grad of WSHS, as were his parents, my grandparents, who graduated from WSHS in ’30 and ’32.
There’s a joke in my family that once you settle in WS, it sucks you in and you can never leave…many have tried to move away, and they all come back to stay, realizing this is where its at! :)
March 11, 2008 at 5:30 pm #617274
BonnieParticipantAndrea, my husband went to Hope & Seattle Lutheran too. Class of ’85.

sanMemberBorn and raised! Bought our first home here almost a year ago, nothing could make me leave!
March 11, 2008 at 5:43 pm #617276
andreaParticipantcool Bonnie! it is such a small community of people who went to school there, so I probably know him or at least who he is. I graduated from Hope in ’90 and SLHS in ’94.
March 11, 2008 at 5:43 pm #617277
BonnieParticipantCongratulations on your first home purchase San!
March 11, 2008 at 5:45 pm #617278
BonnieParticipantAndrea, I figured you were younger than him. I bet you had the same 1st grade teacher. I can’t think of her name but she’s still there! Mrs. Grunhagen or something like that. He said the he was in 1st grade was the her 1st year as a teacher.
March 11, 2008 at 5:46 pm #617279
JanSParticipantandrea…the daughter left west seattle for a while, living in Belltown and then Magnolia. She moved back to WS this past December (actually into the apt. next to mine)…and I think she’s probably here for the duration. She’s seen the error of her ways :)
March 11, 2008 at 5:52 pm #617280
andreaParticipantHow cool that you live next door to her Jan! I’m not so sure that I could do that with my own mom, but I think its wonderful that you’re so close (as in space :))…i remember her as being a free spirit and very astute and aware, so I’m sure your parenting played a great role in her wanting to stay so close to you. and its true, WS sucks you in and doesn’t let you leave (at least for very long!)

JohnMMemberI’ve lived in WS all of my life (excepting when I was in Navy). Went to Gatewood, Madison and WSHS, class of ’71. My children also graduated from Seattle Lutheran, Andrea (98 and 02). A lot has changed, but a lot remains the same…..both still live in WS.
March 11, 2008 at 5:54 pm #617282
andreaParticipantBonnie I had Mrs Gruenhagen for 1st grade as well! She’s still teaching 1st grade too that I know :)
March 11, 2008 at 5:57 pm #617283
andreaParticipantJohnM, I or my siblings probably know your kids…the Hope & SLHS community is so small! my brother (Drew) garduated from SLHS in ’96 and my sister (Corrie) in ’00.

AnonymousInactiveMoved here this past October and we have absolutely no plans to leave! We too are looking to buy a home here soon and we are extremely excited to be coming into our FIRST summer season!

flowerpetalMemberWhen I moved to Seattle in 1987 it was to go to graduate school at UW. At that time I met Seattle natives who had never been to West Seattle! Shocking! But it made it all the more appealing to me. My honey and I rented our first place together in WS in 1990. In 1996 we were ready to buy our first house and found that even back then we couldn’t afford WS which made us very sad. So we bought a house in Tukwila for a song and sold it four years later for a tidy profit. And voila! we found we could then afford West Seattle. We’ve been back for seven years and are very connected to our community.

BeasleyMemberI’ve been in Seattle my whole life, West Seattle for about 10 years now. I never want to leave; however, my husband’s parents are getting “up there” and he would like us to move so we can be closer to them. In Hackensack. Hackensack, people!!
March 11, 2008 at 7:43 pm #617287
BonnieParticipantBeasley, refer them to The Kinney.
March 11, 2008 at 7:44 pm #617288
KeithMemberI’ve been in WS a mere 3 years. I enjoy all the different neighborhoods of Seattle but I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
March 11, 2008 at 8:59 pm #617289
SueParticipantBeasley – Hackensack, NJ? For 7 years I lived 10 min. from there, so I understand. :)

TeaLadyMemberHi! I moved to Seattle in 2003 from DC…tripped into West Seattle in 2004, bought a house and love it so much. Love our neighbors, our run down little house and our whole neighborhood.
March 11, 2008 at 9:28 pm #617291
BeasleyMemberSue-
Yes, Hackensack NJ. Well Lodi if you want to get specific. How am I supposed to go from living here to living there? And what am I going to do on Sundays?
March 12, 2008 at 1:33 am #617292
addParticipantOh my, Beasley … I grew up in Northern NJ, so I know. You will have to get your in-laws to check out the offerings here. My MIL just moved to Sequim from Newton NJ, not quite Lodi, but still. She loves it here (go figure!).

MrJTMemberMoved to West Seattle in 1997, after being raised in Tukwila. But am a 4th Generation West Seattlite. My Great Grandparents moved to the area in the teens, Grandparents (2 still living here), and my Parents all graduated from WSHS. Even though I grew up down the road, I spent plenty of time here. I bet there are not many that have been down the hill on Charlestown with mom’s 1972 Country Squire loaded with buddies !
March 12, 2008 at 2:43 am #617294
JohnMMemberAndrea,
My son apparently knows of you (if he doesn’t know you)…when I emailed if he knew a “sibling group he responded with a last name that starts with D and ends in Y. That You? My kids names are Ryan and Allison.
March 12, 2008 at 3:38 am #617295
sanMemberThanks Bonnie! We are super happy with it!
