charlabobParticipantWe need to find someone to come into our home part time (3 days a week/ half days?) to take care of our 96 year-old mother/MIL. She’s mobile and mentally alert – she needs help with some of the physical stuff (and with having companionship, since we both work FT.)
She’s somewhat/sometimes incontinent, needs help bathing and washing hair and other personal tasks. She’ll definitely pick the person and tell them what to do — we just have to get the ball rolling for her.
If you have an agency or person to recommend (or unrecommend), other things for us consider, please let us know. We’d like to do this soon — she’s spending too much time alone :-)
Thanks!

inactiveMemberHey Charlabob –
I’m not sure if this is up the alley of what you are hoping to find, but SSCC has a couple of nursing programs. When I was tutoring there, I noted a number of terrific nursing (including lpn) students were doing this kind of work part time. Maybe give the school/department a call? Maybe? Hope you and your 96 (!!!!) MIL/mom find what ya’ need!

charlabobParticipantThanks, dood! I never think of SSCC and it’s a great idea. (PS — I met a labradoodle puppy yesterday and I might be smitten — though Glabs are still the best!)

inactiveMemberWhat’s a glab? Golden/lab? That would be very good too. :)

charlabobParticipantGlab is Greyhound-Lab.

inactiveMemberOh. Ok… never heard of the name, but the cross would be great, I’m sure. Lab crossed with anything is always a good thing in my worldview ;).

FranciParticipantHey Charla,
My neighbors have a golden/poodle mix, they are lovely too.. very gentle, friendly, swee sweet disposition. I’m tempted to get one of these for myself.. if I can get my yard fenced in. :)

charlabobParticipantFranci, would that be a go-poo? Hmmmmmm.

hopeyParticipantGolden x poodle == goldendoodle!
If anyone is serious about wanting either a labradoodle or goldendoodle puppy, or even an older dog (like a retired breeding dog) please let me know. I’ve been active in the labradoodle/goldendoodle breeding community for about two years now. My “girls” are not yet ready to breed, but I am happy to refer folks to reputable breeders with good ethical breeding practices.
And just so this isn’t a total threadjack…
charlabob, I think it’s wonderful that you are caring for your MIL in your home. I didn’t answer the thread initially because I didn’t have any resources to suggest.

JeraldParticipantI haven’t used any of these personally, but have heard others’ recommendations.
The Kenney (north of Lincoln Pk on Fauntleroy) offers homecare services.
A friend had good luck with Gentiva (I think that’s how it’s spelled).
The city/county has a program that is aimed at keeping the elderly in a private home, rather than in a nursing or adult family home. They’ll cover the cost of some hours a week of assistance, whether in-home or at an adult day center. I can’t recall the name of it, but it should be easy to reach through the city’s senior services.
