No mockery intended, I assure you, dyn99. I wondered about your investment in the question, to be honest.

The thing is, I largely agree with you. But say somebody does this after the trash truck has been by, but before the can is retrieved from the curb. Our pickup comes early, but we don’t bring the cans in till we get home from work.

I dunno about you, but I’d rather not have dog poop in my garage for a week.

Datamuse, I agree. That would be crappy (hehe).

But the OP’s rant (which was unconfronted, mind you) was against someone that did this “horrible” deed either late night or early morning BEFORE the garbage man came to take the crap along with their crap.

So my point is…who cares?! Seriously, there is dog poop sitting in your garbage can for two hours? And that’s a big enough deal to write a rant about on the WSB why?

If you really don’t have anything better to bitch about than temporary squatting in your garbage can, then I have no sympathy for you.

I think it’s even fine to do it when the garbage truck is not about to come, but the person leaves their garbage can permanently in the city right of way, accessible to anyone who walks by. As long as it doesn’t take up a significant amount of room in the can, I say if you put a city-owned can on city-owned property, then it’s free game in my book.

Especially for those of you who leave your garbage can on the curb for 3 days. You know who you are…and you may well find my dog’s poo in it after 48 hours. In a neatly knotted bag, of course…

Could this be THE topic of 2013 already? Perhaps not, but the subject line “Hey, poopyhead” is likely to go down as one of the best I’ve seen on this blog.

My husband does this and it drives me nuts! I find it uncouth and disrespectful.

It is more rude than anything, but at least they picked it up.

On a side note. So I do a lot of driving in west seattle and it was a pretty windy day. So for those who are possibly finding their trash cans on a fire hydrant or a rock or a post, that was me saving some one’s trash can. I don’t really want to drive over them, even put some in driveways and don’t know if the trash can belongs to them.

Did my best to find the lids:)

Dyn99, you are too much. My parking strip is not my property but some random person can’t come and leave garbage on it, nor can they start planting in it. I’m paying for the service of the garbage cans.

Just because something is on public property does not make it public for anyone to use. The bag should be clean on the outside so why not hold it for the walk, you’re not getting dirty….

And another thing. . . . .I don’t like the color of the bag they are picking up the poop in. It clashes with my rotting fish heads and is very unsightly.

What if a nice person is walking through your neighborhood and he or she finds a bunch of trash that was picked at by crows and strewn about the parking strip and decides that in the interest of being neighborly and helpful they pick up the litter – is it OK for them to deposit that in your garbage can or are they being inconsiderate and selfish jerks and obvious scofflaws? Just throwing it out there. . . .

I would thank them for helping to clean up the neighborhood of trash they didn’t create. Now, if they had originally brought the trash out with them, walked for a bit, deposited the trash on the ground, then picked it up and it smelled like dog poop, then different story.

I was referring to the original thread – that my husband is a poopyhead and using other people’s trash cans for disposing of dog poop.

This topic made me think of a “Do Unto Others” talk I heard some years ago. One school of thought is we should do unto others as we would have done unto us. So, if it wouldn’t bother me to have someone deposit poop in *my* garbage can, then it is fine for me to deposit poop in *someone else’s* garbage can. The talk went on to explain that a more evolved and charitable interpretation of the golden rule would go more like this: Do unto others as they would like to have done unto themselves. In that version of the golden rule, the action-taker must consider not his own preferences, but the preferences of the other party when deciding whether an action is charitable.

I don’t know about garbage cans but if anyone puts a lowly twig in my yard waste while it’s waiting for pick-up I will personally hunt them down and give them the business.

Which is why all of these whiners shouldn’t complain about someone doing them no harm because they used their garbage can for a few hours.

    #781985

Maybe people who don’t mind having poop in or around their can, can post their addresses?

    WSratsinacage –

There was no discussion of “around” by the OP. The post referred to “in” for less than a few hours until WM came to collect it.

Stay on the topic people! GEEZ!!

    #781988

Sorry I used the term “around”, just wanted to make sure everyone’s comments were included, geez. Why don’t you call out the other people who haven’t stayed on topic?

    .

For the record I don’t like poop in my garbage can and appear to be in the (law abiding) majority.

Let’s try this one on for size: if you invite someone to your home who has a baby and they need to change it’s diaper are you going to make them pack the dirty diaper home with them or are you being a better host by just letting them throw it away and then immediately taking it out? Same thing. It’s going to stink up your house for a little bit but you might as well let them dispose of it as quickly as possible as garbage isn’t meant to be packed around for long distances for, you know, SANITARY REASONS. I’d be much more comfortable buying stock in Febreeze and just letting them toss it in my garbage. And they would be too, I’m sure.

To me, garbage is garbage. If my can is out on the street feel free to use it so you don’t have to pack it around with you. (I’d give you my address but it looks like about 10 different people on here would come find my house and ironically crap on my life.)

Worse than my garbage smelling like poo is having to watch someone carrying it around while they walk or WORSE tying it to their dog’s LEASH! UGH!

How about we say that there are enough people posting here that do not want your dog’s poop in their garbage can that you err on the side of consideration and not deposit your dog’s poop in anyone else’s garbage can in case it’s one of the percentage who object…

I’m still going to do it. Especially on Monday mornings before the garbage trucks come do their pickup.

It’s just as easy to have people lighten up about sharing this planet with others and garbage just being garbage. But who am I to suggest that in light of such a moral panic about dog crap of all things.

Inviting a friend over with a baby is a different circumstance – you’ve made the choice to invite them over. You don’t necessarily make the choice in having dog walkers throw their poop in your trash can.

Besides, how do the dog walkers know where you store those trash cans when they’re not out awaiting collection. The poop smell lingers and you may store it in your enclosed garage, man/woman cave, home office, who knows where. The unassuming dog walker may be unknowingly playing a game of hide a dook on someone as far as we know.

But just like any ‘first world problem’ (seriously, how many problems on here are not first world problems – we live in a first world country and are arguing/discussing things on the internet for goodness sakes!), that’s just my opinion.

Also, I’m perfectly ok with watching people carry a bag of turd – it was their choice to have that responsibility.

Sharing this planet also goes both ways, too. Being a good neighborhood starts off with doing what you think is a good thing for your neighbors. Some people think that involves packing your turd back home with you, others think it involves throwing it in someone else’s trash.
