charlabobParticipantWe’re not ready to adopt yet, but this search will probably take a while. I’m looking for that elusive combination — a Glab. We had one for 12 years and he was the sweetest dog ever.
I have found a few in Google; most seem to be in Florida. If anyone ever hears of such a beast, or knows of a rescue association — let me know. As I said, I won’t be ready for a while, but it never hurts to plan ahead.
And, nope, I won’t settle for even the cutest alternative. I want me a glab. :-)
I would actually rescue a greyhound, except the katsky clan has exhibited no interest in playing rabbit to a hyper retired racer.

AnonymousInactiveCharlabob, sounds like a great mix. FYI, a friend adopted a retired greyhound. That guy was so laid back I wondered sometimes if he was alive. Seriously. A lump on the carpet. Very, very sweet as well. If you decide to check into them, just wanted to say, they come in all varieties of personality.

kParticipantbest thing we ever did was to rescue a greyhound! she is the sweetest dog i have ever owned!

charlabobParticipantBut do you have cats???
I dog sat a greyhound once and when I walked in the house I couldn’t find her anywhere. Couldn’t imagine she escaped, but I was panicked — then I looked up; she was asleep on top of the refrigerator. Apparently she didn’t jump on the furniture, but she did know how to jump :-)
I love them to bits — given the previous lives of retired racers, their mellowness is quite amazing. Its just that my cats have expressed no interest in being chased by big slobbering dogs; they have enough trouble being chased by each other.

AnonymousInactiveCharla, I’ve told you before, you have to type slow for me. I’m on medications for cripes sake! katsky clan Could I be more dense:)

kParticipantcharlabob-i do not have cats. i know some have been “cat tested” and get along fine with them. ours was young when she got off the track because she was too small to race (lucky girl). she is not a cat fan. small and furry=run and chase for her.

charlabobParticipantJeez, JT — you haven’t memorized my whole family tree? Wassup? Am I a legend only in my own mind? :-)
My cats could live with a respectful big dog who didn’t chase them — I’m pretty sure they’re not willing to be the test subjects in cat tested. (Max, the glab, was the zeta animal and all of the cats were alpha–definitely a dog who knew his place.)
Thanks for reminding me that there are alternatives.

AnonymousInactiveCharla, it is my life’s mission to be a charlabob expert.
I’m particular to black labs b/c I just lost mine. I saw another article today about how they’re put down the most. I hate that.

hopeyParticipantJT, there is a cute 2 yr old black labradoodle just waiting for you. There are several other black dogs and puppies on this page too. This group is dedicated to saving the lives of poodle-mix dogs.

AnonymousInactivehopey, That is so unfair:) I can’t even look. I have another adult dog and a puppy I’m dealing with. If I see their face I won’t be able to take it.
I have heard the labradoodles make outstanding companions, though. Charla…..

jissyParticipantCharlabob — I have heard of a purebred rescue facility that has adoptions available I think in the Kent/Auburn area — I was looking into it when I was thinking of getting a Burnese Mountain Dog but it’s been years….. maybe a google search??

charlabobParticipantJT, they may be cute, but they talk funny == they use words like “rehome”. A girl has to have some standards. I’m good at teaching dogs to sit, stay, heel — I’ve never tried grammar.
