From the front page, they are still looking for volunteers for the Summer Reading Program at High Point Tutoring center. This prgoram is so organized and fun, it breaks my heart that kids on the wait list – the only thing missing is Volunteers!

I have volunteered at this center for 3 years, and this will be my 3rd summer as well. Summer is always fun because it\’s more than just homework help.

A theme is chosen, and we group read a story – all ages. Then you break apart to your one student-on tutor ratio and focus on grade appropriate skill sets (all worksheets are pre-made). During \”free time\” you use the computer, puzzles, games…whatever it takes to help learn those skills. Then we get back together for a fun, creative themed project.

It\’s 2 hours, once a week (you can pick the day!) and it makes all the difference to these kids. Not only does it boost their skills for the next grade, but it keeps them mentally active and busy in the summer (boredom = trouble). The kids are so much fun and I promise you will enjoy yourself!

I’m sure the 17 year old can, not exactly sure the age limit. Regardless, the center always needs teacher helpers too!

Training is all this week, and tutoring starts next – so please call 206-328-5659 to find out the details! :)
