TanDLParticipantI think you give the government too much credit, Junction Hero. :) I’m not afraid of government conspiracy as much as I’m afraid of government incompetancy and the tendency of so many these days to put their own interests ahead of the American people.

hooper1961Membertime to strap on a parachute, the idiots in DC do not have the guts to make the hard choices.
Taxes must go up and services/entitlements must be cut. Even the low hanging fruit of increasing tax rates on the truly wealthy ($250K individual/$500K couple) and raising the retirement age has not yet been agreed too.

junction heroMember(editor’s note – copyrighted work cut and pasted here – a violation of rules – so here’s the URL for the story that had been here – DO NOT CUT AND PASTE more than one paragraph, and even with that, credit the source and include a URL )

JanSParticipantya know…I hate it when someone copies and pastes, and doesn’t give credit to the original writer. Your post, junction, broken up by those words “Advertise/Ad Choices” gives it away…and while it’s “informative”, it certainly doesn’t make me feel any better about your posts in general..

WSBKeymasterThanks, Jan. That’s a serious violation of rules – and would be on any site. There is always debate on what’s “fair use” for an excerpt but we don’t believe in excerpting more than a paragraph maximum – for the rest, point people to the original site. It’s only fair. I quickly found the uncredited source article by googling a couple of the sentences, and have replaced the uncredited cut-paste with the link to the story. – TR

redblackParticipanttanDL, post 202: the only thing wrong with our government is that it’s currently run by a bunch of corrupt politicians.
there is a difference, but people too often conflate them. i think people who claim to hate/fear our government don’t really know what they’re talking about. people have fought and died for our ability to have this government.
furthermore, it was not intended to be a farm for corporate cronyism.
we really need to drain that swamp.

JoBParticipanthoop..
that gimmick was already tried
by a bunch of fellows who refused to quit when their term limits were up…

redblackParticipantno, hooper. i’m talking about the lobbyists and all of the corporate cash that dictates what will or won’t move through congress.
and we need true journalism, instead of what we have, which is a media culture that facilitates the corruption and is more interested in pushing under-regulated pharma onto sheepish americans than it is in watching our government for us.
and it occurs to me that those two things are why we’re not seeing any agreement on the “fiscal cliff.”
every member of congress – including our beloved “baghdad” jim mcdermott – has some big-money interest in his or her district that will squeal like a pig if we cut corporate subsidy. this is largely why house republicans don’t have the political will to offer targeted cuts to unnecessary spending.
before local republicans pile on, offer some sensible cuts that don’t punish poor people during a recession and democrats will agree to your terms. i.e. cut the corporate largess first.
but you can’t and you won’t.
secondly, cable “news” loves this fight. an agreement or a deal would be boring, right? they have asses in seats right now, as americans watch the daily showdown with bated breath.
