HMC RichParticipantThe FBI has released the statistics of how people were killed in the US and by what means.
Handguns are the largest culprit, but rifles are not. To have a real discussion on Gun Control, lets use the facts.
Blunt objects kill more than rifles or shotguns. Should we ban hammers? Of course not.
Before you go off and completely demonize rifles, you must also look at the ways that people kill other people. It is horrible that people do this.
I do believe the citizen and the government have a responsibility to regulate automatic weapons, sales of arms, and ammo.
There are safe ways to store handguns, rifles, and shotguns. Too bad people do not.
Anyway, here is a link. Go to this story and then there is a link to the FBI’s website. http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013/01/03/fbi-hammers-clubs-kill-more-people-than-rifles-shotguns/
Just to be clear. I am not saying there shouldn’t be certain laws regarding guns. It is difficult to be objective in this discussion, but seeing what causes deaths, we should be able to come up with solutions to help more people than hinder.

miwsParticipant1. I’d feel less in danger, standing 30ft away from some threatening SOB armed with a hammer, than one armed with a firearm of any kind.
2. I’d feel one hell of a lot more confident possibly jumping some SOB who has grabbed a child, and is holding a hammer to their head, than if he were holding a firearm of any kind to the child’s head.

JoBParticipantrich..
you totally ignore the fact that a single person with a single handgun can’t kill as many people at one time in a public setting as a single person with an assault rifle.
but thanks for making the case for regulating all guns ;->

westcoastdebParticipantMaybe (ok, for sure) I am just tired, but the hammer just brings to mind those hammer throwing turtle things from Super Mario Brothers.
Sorry for the interruption. Carry on.

JKBParticipantJust the other day, I saw someone at the Hiawatha playground, practicing throwing the hammer.

oddrealityParticipantI think we all know that there are lots of things that can kill a person. The thing is that most of them cannot kill someone from across the room or the yard or a block or more away . Most of these things cannot hurt your neighbor if you use it carelessly and accidentally shoot through a wall or shoot a child that is visiting or your own.
I am not for banning all guns by any means but I am totally for making gun owners act responsibly and registering guns. I am for banning the personal ownership of military style weapons and clips that hold more than 10 bullets.
The more firepower the populace has the more the police need so they also get bigger and bigger guns. I’d just as soon limit all of that.We cannot keep getting bigger and bigger guns and more firepower. It needs to stop or at least slow down.
