borrisParticipantAnyone converted from a tanked to a tankless water heater? Worth it? Headache? Does it take forever to wait for the heated water? I know the initial cost is a lot more, but perhaps the savings and a tank not taking up so much room is worth it? Appreciate any feedback, pro and con!

FranciParticipantI made the conversion, gosh maybe 10 years ago now. Its a Rinnai, never had any issues with it.
I love it! It’s installed on the exterior, but very close to the bathrooms in my house, there isn’t much of a delay getting hot water to them. The kitchen is at the other end of a ranch style house, and it does seem to take awhile to get the hot water to the kitchen sink.

RarelyEverParticipantI was lucky to be renting a home that had the tankless water heater system, and it’s honestly the best thing in the world. Never experienced any delay getting hot water, and with three adults all showering in the morning never ran out of hot water. If you have the funds, I’d say don’t think twice and do it!

borrisParticipantThanks!

wsn00bParticipantWe love our tankless heater. But definitely pair it up with a programmable or remote controllable recirculating pump. We experienced longer waits for our hot water in our home and are going to put a recirc pump when I have some time.

montanapupParticipantDoes the tankless operate/power on electric or gas?

FranciParticipantGenerally they are gas/propane powered. Mine is gas.

montanapupParticipant@ Franci – would having it electric defeat any cost savings and benefits to going tankless?

CurateParticipantI could have written the exact same post as Franci, verbatim. Love our Rinnai, 9-years-strong and going great. Installed on the exterior of our house. We’ve grown used to the slight delay for hot water — it’s SO worth it for the endless supply once it gets going! Also, re-circulating pumps add cost in terms of increased energy.

FranciParticipantmontanapup,
I don’t have first hand knowledge, but that is what I’ve read online – the electric tankless pull too much energy to get any real cost savings.
I’m assuming you don’t have gas already plumbed to your house? Interested in having other gas appliances installed? My house didn’t have gas at the time I purchased it. PSE was willing to comp the install if I was hooking up enough appliances that would guarantee a certain level of service. I converted to gas heat, brought a gas stove and clothes dryer with me from my old house. When the old electric hot water tank needed to be replaced, I switched to the tankless system. fyi
