Speaking of parking strips…any gardeners have suggestions for drought tolerant plants that can survive dogs “relieving” themselves? On a corner, so plenty of space for walkers, going THROUGH the plantings not a problem, but ON the plantings, sometimes. Lavendar has done fine for years, but any interesting suggestions now that those have run their course? No pups are leaving us presents, so not really interested in policing the activity – ya’ gotta’ go, ya’ gotta’ go. It would be worse with burned spots in grass.

Do you want to keep the dogs away or just give them a benign place to go? Accidentally we found out that the “rocks with plants peeking through” look sends the dogs off to a different spot. They don’t seem to like to walk on the rocks, especially when they’re in a rush. It actually looks good too, which is why we did it.

Other than that, ground cover (the stuff that looks like ivy) seems impervious to everything. Sometimes our neighbor’s car washing soap (environmentally friendly) leaks onto our parking strip and it doesn’t seem to harm anything. It used to turn the grass a disgusting shade of yellow.

Ask the folks at the West Seattle Garden Center — they seriously seem to know everything. :-)
