And lets be honest, nothing is/will be fixed. Why does Grace Crunican still have a job in this City ?

    Good question MrJT!

Of course we all know Grace Crunican is the SDOT Director, yet she exhibits the behavior and decision making skills of a manager.

Even the deputy mayor thinks so…

“She has been responsive to the issue and did what a good manager should have done,” Ceis told the council’s Civil Rights, Health and Personnel Committee.

She has been ineffective in change management within SDOT since her arrival and instead of dodging the ball and point the blame on others she really should accept the fact she’s just not up for the job and resign.

But I can see why she’s hanging around, who else is going to shell out $200K + in salary and benefits for an ineffective manager? AND $1 million + for consultants to confirm it?

    That’s right MrJT, only Seattle.

what consultants are needed for G-d’s sake…we out here in the public will tell them what needs to be done at no charge…could cut that 805K figure in half, at least…

why don’t they ever just ask us?

Jan, that’s exactly the problem — we here in the public will tell them — and we’ll tell them slightly different things and someone needs to mediate. I don’t know anything about SDOT consultants, but I do know consultants are often needed to mediate input from the public.

For example, conventional wisdom says that the snow plows were all over here in WS, plowing the mayor’s street. I live three blocks from the mayor and I can assure you, that’s not where they were. :-) Turns out, the true “accusation” is that they plowed downtown streets so he could get to work. I suspect a lot of other people drove on the same streets. (Besides, he goes to work in a giant SUV — nothing will stop him.)

I’m not defending the mayor or the plowing — just pointing out that the one true reality isn’t always found by talking to the public. (Imagine if anyone tried to decide what to do based on the postings in these forums.)

Now I’ll crawl back into my bunker. :-)

It’s code: When pols say that, the folks they support are usually packing their bags and updating their resumes. :-)

Hopefully that means Mayor Nichols will also be looking for a job

Sad fact is, this will probably just get swept under the carpet.

Mr. JT, the Avatar is Awesome.

Cmon D-day, I mean Mr. JT. Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Greg Nickels is starting to look like Dean Wormer. Who does Grace remind you of?

    HMC Rich – Nice Job!

Now that you mention it, Grace has a strange physical and cerebral resemblance to Flounder.

But, on second thought she has a lot more in common with Bluto. I can’t wait to hear her say “Christ, seven years of college (scratch that)running SDOT, down the drain” then drive off into the sunset with Babs, played by her second biggest fan, Tim Ceis (it’s all about the hair).

I may be mistaken, but I think the whole Alki Point sidewalk extension project was budgeted at $750,000. If that is correct, the $805,000 spent on the internal SDOT fiasco would have gone a long ways towards many needed pedestrian and traffic safety improvements throughout the city. This is unacceptable. Heads really ought to be rolling over this.
