You can take your sanctuary city and put it where the sun don’t shine.

can you explain to me what a sex offender has to do with being a sanctuary city?

From the NY Times: “Sanctuary cities: a term that has been used to generally describe places that limit how local law enforcement can cooperate with federal immigration agents.” (Emphasis my own.) Per the link provided, the perp came to Seattle from Maricopa County, Arizona via Clark County, WA. This maybe makes him a transient, not an immigrant. “Sanctuary Cities” aren’t about protecting sex offenders they’re for protecting refugees and immigrants (yes, including illegal immigrants — but this perp isn’t an illegal immigrant.)

Let’s be clear: What this perp did is HORRIBLE, and a serious, unjustifiable crime. But it’s not due to the Mayor’s policies — claiming it is waters down the heinous act itself.

You must be some kind of “naive ?” to believe that the lax policies of a sanctuary city will not attract homeless, many who are the type who will take anything that is free. Including property which might be yours

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/jan/4/tammy-bruce-crime-rises-in-sanctuary-cities/

“Anyone not deluded or a Democrat (but I repeat myself) knew this would facilitate not just an economic disaster, but an increase in gang and drug crimes. When combined with the criminal aliens’ attraction to cities that won’t cooperate with federal law enforcement, you create a slum of violence, a city that tells criminals the rule of law is fluid and vague.”

ernieusafret…what a stupid statement. The crime that man committed has not a damned thing to do with politics, liberals, conservatives, Trump, Obama, gang activity, or drugs. One of our favorite and frequent commenters here on this blog was homeless . lived at Nickelsville. Not a drug addict, not a bum, not a sex offender. Quite of few of us that have lived in West Seattle for years and years are probably less than a month away from being homeless.

This was a violent crime by a violent past offender. And he is safely behind bars now. I am A Democrat , and find what you are saying offensive, and what this man did, reprehensible. Lock him up, throw the key away. Am I happy with how our esteemed mayor is handling the homeless situation in this city? Not one damned bit. But you need an education about sanctuary cities…it has nothing to do with the homeless population. Get an education before you spout off here.

@ernieusafret: Dear Sir/Madam: Thank you for providing the links to the information for your argument, I did follow them up and then did some research around what they presented.

First of all, let’s reiterate: The perp in your original story is NOT an illegal immigrant, and the simple statement that his actions in Seattle were due to “Sanctuary City” status is moot. The man is one sick f*cker (we can agree on that, right?) His actions are a direct result of his own twisted mind and his victims deserve our support, not our derision because they may live in a “Sanctuary City.” Again, the two issues in your original post: Sanctuary City / This vicious attack have nothing to do with each other.

In fact, if a Support Fund is set up for the victim, I hope you will join me in donating to it, to let her know that her community supports her.

I did some further reading around crime statistics in L.A., which have indeed gone up. I was particularly interested in this article from the L.A. Times: http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-violent-crimes-20160701-snap-story.html

Interesting to me, is that a lot of that crime happens to be perpetrated against ethnic and racial minorities. Not all of it to be sure, but they do call out higher incidents of hate crimes against Muslims, Jews and Latinos.

It makes me wonder whether there’s a correlation between higher crime rates in Sanctuary Cities and big cities, simply because there’s a higher population in big cities and therefore, more crime.

As you can see, I am not “naive” and am not into being disrespectful of others’ views. I am interested in getting facts straight so that we can work together to create a stronger community.
