tttParticipantHas anyone else noticed a toxic smelling odor where west seattle bridge meets i-5? I notice it when driving over that area on weekends and at night. Is that an area where “the jungle” is located under the freeway? Might it be fires lit by the transients?

teddyParticipantI smelled it every time I drove by that area. It’s the smell of marijuana. Even my kids could tell. Very irritating!

DuskyvioletParticipantThere is definitely some type of growing facility near the east end of the West Seattle bridge. My husband and I were commenting on how strong the smell of marijuana was this weekend. You would think there would be some kind of regulation on how they vent those places and that there would need to be a filtration system in place.

WSBKeymasterThere are public records of approved marijuana-growing places as well as selling places, via the Liquor and Cannabis Board. If nobody else comes up with them, I will take a look later. Someone just e-mailed us about this and I pointed them to the forum thread. Meantime, odors are considered air quality problems and you can report to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency:

redblackParticipantat the risk of being “that guy,” i find the odor kind of pleasant… kind of like a bakery. but i can see how it might offend others.

dcnParticipantI’ve noticed it too. I think it smells like skunk.

JanSParticipantyes…the odor of pot in a warehouse growing operation…tis a decidedly strong odor, unless there’s a stiff breeze

BonnieParticipantIs this the area where years and years ago you could smell Rainier Beer brewing? I miss that.
October 25, 2016 at 7:38 am #862279
miwsParticipantBonnie, not only that but just a bit south on the other side of the interchange, the Sunny Jim Peanut Butter plant!
Also, I don’t recall if the aroma made it to I-5 since it’s a bit away from the freeway, but a bit north of the brewery, or maybe even almost directly west, was the Langendorf Bread Company.

redblackParticipantyes, bonnie! kind of like hops cooking. one of my favorite olfactory memories is of being in fremont, where, on any given day, one might appreciate mcmenamin’s, red hook’s, maritime pacific’s, and/or hale’s brewing operations, depending on the prevailing winds…

tttParticipantI would much rather smell hops cooking. I’m glad others are smelling the odor as well. To me it smells like skunk (drying weed) and plastic burning. It is really strong in the evening. Thanks for the link TR.

tttParticipantLast night I made a complaint using the link TR provided above, and was shocked that they read my complaint and called me this morning to let me know the results of them looking into my complaint! PSCleanair said that they have gotten several recent complaints about that area and they believe it is linked to the marijuana porcessing plant in that location. They said they talked to them and reminded them of the air quality guidelines that they must follow. PScleanair was very thorough with their explanation and also said it may possibly be linked to a foundry in the area too or be a combination of the two. They told me to call and make another complaint if I notice the same caustic odor again. I was very impressed with PSCleanair.

tttParticipantPDieter, you are funny. Yes, I meant caustic, def. #1. as in I felt it was eroding away my lungs from the chemical odor. That is exactly what I meant. What is at 1200 near king street? I’ll avoid it!
