Narrow topic here: Does anyone know a charity that would like some books?

I don’t mean giving them to the Salvation Army or Goodwill for resale, but maybe a shelter or place where the actual clients could use some reading material.

My books are recent releases, both fiction and non-fiction.

One idea is to take the books to Half-Priced Books in South Center, they will give you cash for them. At the Seattle Union Gospel Mission, you can purchase “Meal Tickets” for hungry people in our city…

    From the Website:

Meal tickets are a great alternative to handing out cash to those who are asking for money. Each ticket is good for one meal at the Mission’s Men’s Shelter located in the Pioneer Square. Those coming to the shelter for a meal will be greeted by friendly staff and a nutritious meal. (The shelter serves 3 meals a day, 365 days a year.)

A donation of $20.00 is suggested for a pack of ten tickets. You can mail in your gift with a request for meal tickets to:

Hospitals used to accept donations. People there can get desperate for distraction. You could ask.

Nursing homes and their successors are often receptive to books and magazines. Schools and community centers can always use help setting up libraries. Large print books are especially useful.

If you want, contact me privately and let me know what you have — I can help figure out who needs what :-) charlarma at gmail dot com works.

    D’oh! Nursing homes–that’s the ticket.

I’ve got a friend that works at The Kenney so I’ll ask her if they have any use for my books.

    Thanks all.

If you have any books that would be of interest to teens, especially boys, please let me know as there is a group home in Renton that is in need. Thanks.
