There were several West Seattle gatherings of Bernie Sanders supporters participating in Bernie’s historic nationwide online organizing event last night (7/29).

About 25 of us were at the one held in the community room of Elan 41 Apartments at the corner of 41st Ave SW & Edmunds. Over 100,000 people at over 3,500 gatherings in all 50 states participated along with us.

Bernie tailored his stump speech to an organizing theme, and afterwards we all signed up for various tasks online. This is the start of the Sanders campaign in all fifty states. We’ll be door belling, phone banking, registering voters, etc. in the days to follow through the primaries and up to the general election, we hope.

    Hubby is already convinced

so much for domestic bliss.. I am still for Hillary

but.. i am 100% for Bernie’s campaign pushing the issues

it’s high time our party woke up and with enough backing Bernie is just the guy to make them do that

If you come to my door I will contribute!

We need to be aware that the corporate run media will NOT let Bernie win. They want Hillary and/or whatever clown makes it out of the GOP clown car (it’s actually a bus now – driven by that lead clown – the Donald!).

As a result, we need to make sure we have a fallback plan to get him elected as an Independent.

    Go Bernie! Take back America!

    and so it begins…

if the dems don’t front him then he should run as an independent

better take a better look at the guys in the clown car

because that’s not who you want as your next President

    Smitty…bus and RV…lol…

I like Bernie…I also like Hilary…at this point in the game am wary of 3rd party candidacy, only because of TheDonald…we can’t be complacent about all the far right wingy hater folks who are backing him.

Next week’s debate should be veerrryyy interesting….should we have a watching party ? :)

Had to choose between anniversary dinner with my sweetie or a Bernie get together. I’m interested in getting involved. Best approach through his website or is there a WS contact?

JoB do you suppose Hillary will advance anything other than more neoliberal policies while making people happy to have a woman doing so? Other than not being a Republican, what has she presented that addresses the systemic problems of a nation dominated by finance capitalism?

don’t downplay the advantage of having a woman advancing policies… i personally believe it’s the only way the cause of equality for women will move back off the fence.. and even then not without a whole lot of resistance.

She isn’t funded as heavily by the finance industry as you might think… she has been talking about reversing the effects of citizen’s united, you has come out in favor of renewable energy in a big way and her economic ideas don’t suck.

funny.. if you listened to mainstream media you wouldn’t know Bernie existed…

and if you listen to what passes for left media you don’t know what Hillary stands for …

i am guessing this will surprise you.

JoB, I like most of those economic policies. But I’m uncomfortable with the reference to supporting free trade without any direct comment on the very troublesome features of the TPPA and related TTIP, something she’s hedged on and which represent global neoliberal “reform” on steroids, or more accurately the backs of taxpayers. I see no reference to restoring Glass Steagall which is Bill’s crowning achievement when it comes to betraying working people and doing the bidding of finance. Still, I’d work for her if Bernie doesn’t get the nod. In truth, if Bernie poses a credible challenge in the late stages of the Democratic primary process, it would means there is support for much more than the changes to tax policy outlined in the article. Again, I believe the challenges we face are systemic and require systemic solutions.

    JTB..

i don’t know that i have seen her talk about glass steagal yet.. but I am pretty sure Bill recently admitted it was a mistake…

and i think as a mainline Democrat she will have a difficult time politically coming down hard on the TTPA and TTIP while Obama supports it so adamantly… my hope is that Bernie and the support he is gathering will push her…

and.. she is still a hawk…

and that’s not a good thing.

i too believe that the changes we face are systemic and will require systemic solutions…

but i believe very strongly that systemic change won’t become a reality until we embrace equality… for everyone.

she is not the ideal candidate.. but i do believe she is the most viable candidate for doing the kind of job that needs done after election… and that matters a lot to me.

    btw..

i don’t really think she will end up as the democratic nominee

but it don’t think Bernie will either

and after experiencing the local caucus the last time she ran

    i don’t think i will attend

that was too many shades of ugly for me

systemic change won’t come from people shouting other people down because they don’t want to hear what they are saying… at least not any systemic change i want to see.

The discussion about Hillary Clinton often comes down to not really favoring her likely actions in office, but supporting the symbolism of electing a woman.

I have a hard time getting my head into voting for another disappointing president with a liberal sounding campaign because of her sex.

I voted for Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, Jackie Speier and Barbara Lee. No problem – 3 out of 6 ain’t so bad, but a 50/50 chance doesn’t strike me as a reason to put gender high on the list of compelling qualities in a candidate.

Far more important to me is having an idea of what the candidate will do about issues I care about while in office. I’m pretty sure what Bernie will fight for, Hillary – not so much.

Hillary changes like the wind when it comes to the Middle East and war. Unless we’re talking about her unwavering support for Israel, that is.

I’m going to have a hard time voting for her if she wins the nomination.

I don’t believe that Hillary, by virtue of her gender, can do any more to advance equality for women than Barack Obama – by virtue of his race, has been able to do for race relations. Figureheads have very little power. I’m tired of voting for the candidate I fear the least, rather than the one I support the most.

I support Hillary because she is an experienced politician who knows how to get things done…

I think that the fact that she is a woman who has been a consistent supporter of women’s equality is a huge bonus… not just for women but for our society as a whole.

dismissing support for Hillary as little more than a grasp at symbolism is demeaning to both the candidate and those who support her.

nice stats.. on those lifetime contributions

but then.. you knew that … didn’t you?

so, JoB…a question…if you don’t feel that Hilary OR Bernie will get the nomination…who do you think will?

    #826350

She’s just getting started JoB. At this point career is a better predictor than what’s happened in this election cycle so far.

She’s probably planning on a cakewalk through the primary and then the real fundraising will happen.

BTW here’s this election cycle. https://www.opensecrets.org/pres16/contrib.php?cycle=All&id=N00000019&type=f

    perspective: from Robert Reich

“Super PACs should be called race horses because Federal Election Commission filings due today show he 2016 Republican presidential nominating race has become a competition among a handful of the super-wealthy — just as they invest in horses for the thrill of winning huge stakes, the prestige that comes in having their own horse, and unlimited access to the horse and its trainers. Here’s what we know so far:

The Bush horse is largely owned by about 25 people who have given or raised $1 million each.

The Cruz horse is owned by investor Toby Neugebauer, for a $10 million contribution.

The Walker horse is owned by Diane Hendricks of Afton, Wisconsin, and Marlene Ricketts, of Omaha, Nebraska – who have contributed $9.9 million so far.

The Huckabee horse is owned by Ronald Cameron, of Little Rock, who has put in $3 million — over 80 percent of the total.

The Trump horse is solely owned by one billionaire who has decided the best presidential candidate is Donald Trump. His name? Donald Trump.”

I wasn’t trying to demean anyone. I thought Hillary’s turn was announced when there were 18 million cracks in that glass ceiling. I also heard it expressed that, since the 13 amendment preceded the 19, the regular order was being determined by the nomination of Obama. I may be imagining all that.

The one thing I am not imagining is that every candidate, except Bernie, is kissing the rings of every moneyed Don who’s dispensing big bucks.

John Nichols of the Nation expressed the consequences of that by citing Scott Walker. Nichols says that Walker would still be in the Wisconsin House but for the contributions of the Koch brother and others. These pashas get the results they want and know, whatever bushwah Scott peddles to the boob-a-ree, they’ll get theirs. Even if Walker has to blatantly reverse himself.

Obama said he’d clean up NAFTA and get trade deals that were good for the US, he didn’t say the Canadians had already been assured he wouldn’t or that the US he was talking about were the entities with the big bucks. The Obama Justice Department went very easy on Wall Street.

The impression Clinton is making is that she will continue and improve the Obama policies. The question is, improve for whom?

Talk of wind farms and solar arrays is easy, talk of keeping liquid fossil remains underground, not so.

Jimmy Carter tells us that we are living in an oligarchy NOW, and I believe him. Accepting billions of dollars to campaign is not a sign that the taker is going to do anything to restore the democratic republic we started with.
