shihtzuParticipantI just witnessed someone almost plow over a pedestrian at the Admiral and 47th crosswalk. I was stopped and she tried to go around me!
Just a friendly reminder to slow down in these areas. Contrary to what the city says, I do think they are hard to see sometimes when coming around the corners. And, it’s treated as a freeway, so crosswalks aren’t expected.

AnonymousInactiveEveryone needs to slow down, in our neighborhood 35th is treated as a place to drag race at all hours of the day and night.

FranciParticipantA couple of weeks ago I was crossing California at Admiral way with a the ‘walk’ signal and just about got run over by a guy, on a cell phone, in an SUV. When I made of point of gesturing that he was blocking the sidewalk and I had the walk signal, he found it necessary to roll down his window and swear at me and let me know that he didn’t care that he was blocking the cross walk – ?? This was not a young driver either.

JenVMemberI work on California Ave right near a crosswalk and saw someone rear-ended today who had stopped for a pedestrian! Pay attention, folks!

JanSParticipantso…tell me again when talking on your cell phone will be outlawed? Isn’t it this summer? You have to use a hands free device?
I am temporarily disabled…I walk with the assist of a cane, and I don’t go very fast (but wait until this summer – lol). When I’m crossing at a crosswalk, and someone is headed to wards me, I give them an evil look and in my head I dare them…I’ll own their car, their house, their vacation house, and their cats (not a doggie person…hehe) I guess I figure that they wouldn’t dare hit someone with a cane…but I could be wrong…

AnonymousInactiveI was hit in a crosswalk, spent 3 months on crutches, tore all the ligaments behind my legs, broke my left shoulder and almost broke my pelvis bone. The driver was too busy watching the traffic so she could merge and decided not to watch me and the other 5 persons on the sidewalk cross the street. I got 3 feet in front of her and during that time she turned her head to merge, placed her foot on the gas pedal and slammed into me so hard I flew 3 lanes over right in front of a car in the left turn lane that honked at me to get out of his way like I tripped or something. 2 ambulances responded, I rode in a witnesses car because it took the ambulance so long to get there, I saw more of the hospital than I care to remember and I was interviewed by the Police. The woman who slammed into me ran into my room in triage and told me I was to blame for her slamming into me because she was busy thinking about which gifts to by her kids for Christmas. Oh, she did finish her Christmas shopping after she hit me. She yelled at me because her husband would be mad at her and that her insurance rate was going up. The result: She lost her license for 1 year and had to pay all my medical bills and I also sued her.
