I am new to West Seattle. I did a quick search on the WSB for trash and I'm not seeing any organized ongoing efforts for trash cleanup.

Has this neighborhood, particularly Alki ever considered starting a West Seattle branch of Zero Trash. Check out Zero Trash Laguna - a grassroots group in Laguna Beach, CA. I would love to start a group like this in West Seattle so would like to see if anyone would participate and/or help support it.

I could see it really being a great addition to the WS community tapping the high schools, middle schools and other groups in the area for helping hands.

    What do you think???

  2. I think its a great idea and there was just a huge effort on Alki, I think the first 100 people to fill a bag got free Jack Johnson tickets, or something like that. I also know ANA has annual, or semi annual clean ups in the Admiral area. The info is there (here) just search a little more.

  3. We've had lots of community groups cleaning up various parts, sometimes regularly, but nothing this sustained or generalized. I like the idea.

  5. I would love to see the students at WSHS organized into this. It's amazing to watch them just toss their trash wherever during their lunch break in the neighborhood. They need to become more aware...that we are not their garbage container !

  6. JanS,

I will buy you a gold badge if you can get those students to ever clean up after themselves. I don't think its possible.

maybe even one day a month, say the second saturday, where people of W.S. vow to go out within a certain radius of their house/home and pick up trash for a bit. If everyone would do this, each area would overlap after a while and this would be the nicest 'hood in the N.W.

@Carson: I will take the gold badge remark as a challenge. My kids will go to WSHS eventually and I'm a tenacious type who might just find a way to make that a reality. They might still toss the trash but if I play my cards right, I will find a way to get it picked up consistently by the students there.

In just a day or so, several of you seem to think this is a good enough idea to pursue. I am in between work assignments right now so I think I'll look into this further and make a plan (I'm a project manager).

If any of you out there would like to work with me on this, please email me: carlasrogers@gmail.com

    Thanks !!!
