  1. ...that I -don't- want a phonebook so they gave me a hangtag on the door instead!
Finally! After a bazillion requests to stop getting a book, they stopped! So, if you notice a suspicious white van driving slowly down your street you maybe lucky enough -not- to get a phonebook today :-D

  4. What did the hangtag say on it? Something like...

"Dear 'valued' customer: We understand you don't want the large, heavy piece of junk we customarily leave on your property without your permission. Please accept this much smaller piece of trash in its place. One of our representatives will be contacting you shortly to explore other ways we can be of disservice to you. Don't forget to 'opt out' again next year!"

  6. Another option, if you use CatalogChoice.org to stop catalog mailing, is to find these all in one place by searching "phone" one CC. All the ones I looked at required sending you to the phone book company's opt-out site, rather than just setting preferences on CC, but at least you don't have to type in each address separately--and you can track compliance on CC.

I have tried to get off these lists a number of times too. My My newest strategy is to call the biggest advertisers in the phone books (front and back cover) and complain to them. This seems to be working a lot better than trusting the phone book companies to take me off. Now the advertisers themselves are calling the phone book companies with my complaints and then the phone book companies call me to apologize profusely. I mean it when I say I will never work with a business that I see advertising in these environmental disasters.

I use mine to paper train my Chupy when I have to leave her in the house, never a good idea by the way... For this, the THICK book is my favorite, it lasts for at least a few days of indoor "activity."
